In his memoir, he explores different policies, events, trends, beliefs, values, etc. and how they impacted his own experience and growth--as well as communities he’s a part of. As he writes many of his prologues as informational snippets of important happenings, we will be taking a deeper dive and look into these events, phenomenon, and movements.
For our second task, we will be focusing on synthesizing (weaving together) two different sources of information to present a deeper and more meaningful picture of an idea. Much of Noah’s PART II centers on observations, lessons, and “hot takes” Noah’s developed about various historical events, popular trends, cultural phenomenon, or global/social issues and movements.
You will be in charge of reading about a historical event or sociocultural phenomena that has impacted Noah’s life as a young adult growing up in South Africa in the 90s. This assignment will help you consume, select, synthesize, and organize data into something more digestible. We will provide a scholarly source explaining this social concept, and you are tasked then with finding an example(s) from the text—and synthesizing the two sources of information to present a more complete explanation of this phenomenon. Write an organized informational blurb explaining what is your topic and why it’s so significant.
SELECT: Pick ONE event/phenomena/trend/issue/movement to explain to your group.
EXPLORE: Read the provided scholarly source on this concept. Optional: Find an additional source if you’d like
CONNECT: Revisit the book and find Trevor’s experience of these social issues.
SYNTHESIZE: Write a small blurb explaining what your phenomena is and support it with Trevor’s personal experience of it.
SHARE & DISCUSS: Share out your research topic to your group and discuss the main discussion question as a group.
