Kaohsiung Fucheng High School and Fengshan District Wufu Elementary School have joined hands with the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) to jointly promote the 2025 Transnational Education Internship Program, using an "online + physical" hybrid model to provide students with an immersive bilingual learning environment and international education experience. This year's internship cooperation officially began on February 13, starting with an online internship; and then a two-week physical internship began on May 13. This became the first high school in Taiwan to join hands with an elementary school and the University of the Philippines for a cross-border cooperative internship education exchange program.
Since signing an MOU with the Polytechnic University of the Philippines in April 2021, Fucheng High School has actively expanded international education cooperation, jointly conducting SDGs courses and cultural exchanges with the school's affiliated high schools (high school and junior high school), and forming a team to participate in the Asian Student Exchange Program (ASEP) English-language competition. In addition, teachers from the two schools formed a co-preparation community to enhance bilingual teaching expertise and cultivate students' global perspectives through sharing teaching resources.
In March 2022, Fucheng High School signed an MOA for overseas education internship cooperation with the College of Education of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, becoming the first high school in Taiwan to cooperate with the University of the Philippines to conduct education internships. Even though the program was affected by the epidemic that year, it was still successfully promoted for a one-semester online education internship. The program received wide acclaim from teachers and students. It not only improved students' language skills, but also gave them a deeper understanding of cross-cultural learning.
Starting from 2024, Fucheng High School and the Polytechnic University of the Philippines have adopted a hybrid model of "online learning + two weeks of field teaching". Last year, a total of 8 Filipino intern teachers came to Taiwan to bring students a more comprehensive bilingual learning experience. This year, the program has been expanded to Wufu Elementary School, making it the first elementary school in Taiwan to participate in a transnational education internship, further strengthening the international connections of Taiwan's basic education.
Two-stage internship model to cultivate bilingual and cross-cultural skills
The program is divided into two stages: online and physical, allowing trainee teachers and students to interact in different learning environments to improve teaching effectiveness. The first phase of online internship will start on February 11, 2025. Filipino intern teachers will hold joint preparation meetings with Taiwanese teachers to familiarize themselves with the curriculum and teaching methods, jointly design teaching materials and prepare lesson plans, and observe and discuss classes.
The second phase is the physical internship. From May 13 to May 26, 2025, 12 Filipino trainee teachers will come to Taiwan, eight of whom will conduct teaching internships at Fucheng High School and four at Wufu Elementary School. The internship subjects cover English and Home Economics, and students will participate in diverse cross-cultural learning experiences through formal and informal courses.
Fucheng High School, a leader in educational exchange in the Philippines, has taken an important step towards Taiwan's international education
The project was recognized by the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines, which expressed its blessing and support. Manager Ye of the Taiwan Education Center in the Philippines highly praised Fucheng High School, saying: "Fucheng has always been the leader in educational exchanges between Taiwan and the Philippines! A few years ago, when Taiwan high schools were still on the sidelines about educational cooperation with the Philippines, you (Fucheng High School) took the lead and showed full sincerity!" In addition, she also believes that Wufu Elementary School, as the first elementary school to participate in this cooperation, is more exemplary and can serve as a benchmark for the development of bilingual education in Taiwan.
In this transnational education internship program, Fucheng High School Parent Association Advisor Ye Guofen actively assisted in promoting exchanges, provided valuable community resources and support, and promoted academic cooperation between the two schools in Taiwan and PUP University in the Philippines. In appreciation of her dedication and support, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) issued a special certificate of appreciation.
Actively promoting this new educational model, Fucheng High School Principal Xia Rixin said: "This year is the third year of our educational internship cooperation with the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. With the participation of Wufu Elementary School, the scope of international cooperation has been further expanded. This is not only an achievement for the school, but also an important step in the internationalization of Taiwan's education. I hope that this cooperation model can be further deepened in the future so that more students can benefit."
Wufu Elementary School Principal Gu Songmin also pointed out, "This cooperation is an important milestone for Wufu Elementary School to promote bilingual education. We hope that through such international exchanges, students can not only learn languages, but also understand different cultures and enhance their global competitiveness."
A senior student from Fucheng High School said: "I am looking forward to this English lecture. I hope that through communication with the Filipino intern teachers, I can improve my English ability and gain a deeper understanding of the culture of different countries, which will lay a foundation for my future university life."
A third-grade student from Wufu Elementary School said, "I'm so excited! I heard that I can take classes with teachers from the Philippines and learn English. I must seize this opportunity and learn English well!"/of miles to Kaohsiung to find his missing relatives who hahttps://www.youngnews3631.com - Young News All rights reserved.
