Welcome to Our Class

Welcome back!!! Information about grading, course descriptions (6th - 7th - 8th), and scheduling can be accessing by clicking each link above :).

In reading class, we will be working on reading articles, discussing literature, writing about our reading, and meeting with the school librarian for a lesson every other week.

Behavior expectations: We follow Positive Behavior Support (PBS) here at FSDB.

Be Responsible

Be Respectful

Be Cooperative

I give verbal praise to students who are doing well with their work and/or following classroom procedures. There are punch cards available as a reward for demonstrating PBS. If there is an issue with behavior in the classroom, below are the consequences.

1st time -- Student receives a warning.

2nd time -- One-on-one conference with teacher to try to resolve the incident.

3rd time -- Referred to Dr. Fortune (behavior specialist). This might lead to a possible behavior referral.

Homework expectations: Students are expected to read for at least half an hour each day outside of reading class (or two and a half hours each week). The homework options are printed and sent home in a reading folder. They are also posted in Google Classroom.

Achieve 3000 – Students will usually complete two Achieve articles a week. These articles are mostly nonfiction and range in topic from technology to history.

Read180 -- The leading blended learning intervention program building reading comprehension, academic vocabulary, and writing skills for students in Grades 4 and up

Concerning Google Classroom: We are using Google Classroom where you will find class information and posted assignments. I will send you a link to join our new Google Classroom through a personal email to you. Inside the email, you will need to click "Join" or press "Enter" over the Join button if you are using JAWS. Then, you will go to Google and type in: "classroom.google". This will take you to the search option that says Google Classroom-Sign in-Google Accounts. Then, follow the Google Classroom Tutorial For Students link embedded in the middle of this page. Once your assignments are completed in Google Classroom, you will find a button at the top right-hand corner that says "Turn In". Once you click the button or click "Enter" while hovering over the "Turn In" button I have your completed assignment.
