Music helps us grow in many ways.
Emotionally, mentally, socially, academically, and beyond.
How is playing an instrument helping you grow today?
Our orchestra classroom is a place to learn, grow, explore, and perform. Students are encouraged to be curious about the sounds they create and to explore avenues for improvement. Playing a string instrument brings us together as ensemble performers, develops us as individuals, and connects us to the core subjects of science, math, history, and art. I am passionate about helping students to make those connections while learning to be confident performers and musicians.
I have taught band and strings in the Flemington-Raritan School District since 2003, although I have taught primarily strings for 10+ years at RFIS. Flemington-Raritan has been a wonderful place to work and grow as a professional. I appreciate all of the opportunities and performances I've had with my students here. I was named Teacher of the Year in 2016 and was our district Keynote Speaker in 2023.
I am a graduate of The College of New Jersey. For ten years following my graduation, I performed with the Eastern Wind Symphony performing at places like the Kennedy Center, Princeton University, The College of New Jersey, New Jersey Performing Arts Center, and Carnegie Hall. It was an honor to have those experiences as a musician. They have left me with lasting memories. I also taught a piano studio for twelve years primarily teaching adaptive lessons for children with special needs.
Music Lasts A Lifetime was the title of a Classroom Closeup documentary about our RFIS music program in 2013. Building memories and friendships is as much a part of music as is skill building. I look forward to a wonderful year of growth with our RFIS Musicians.
