Week of January 19th-23rd: The week’s grammar focus was sentence variety; students learned how to identify and create simple, compound, and complex sentences. In our narratives, we focused on revising and editing this week through mini lessons on figurative language, run-on sentences/fragments, dialogue punctuation, and word choice. Students revised/edited their stories, while referencing the teacher mentor narrative. Finally, students reflected on their independent reading with their third reading check. In this assignment, students read their book aloud in a video, and identified/defined three unknown words.
OUR CURRENT LEARNING IN MATH
Week of January 19th-23rd: In number corner, students are working on identifying patterns, writing expressions, and graphing on a coordinate plane. In our core instruction, students are practicing decimal computation strategies. Students continue to work on ordering decimals/fractions, and finding equivalencies, too. At the end of the week, we began working on decimal conversions.
OUR CURRENT LEARNING IN SOCIAL STUDIES
Week of January 19th-23rd: Students continued to learn about the motivations Europeans had for traveling to the "New World," and the effects it had on Indigenous Americans and Africans. We also studied "push" and "pull" factors for Europeans coming to North America. Students continue to work on developing written responses with text evidence and reasoning.
