Junior year is an extremely important year for high school students. Critical decisions will have a major impact on a student’s next five years and long beyond. College admissions officers look very closely at what a student does in junior year!
Plan for an academically challenging senior year too! Review your Senior Course Selection Sheet - Colleges like to see students continue in the core subject areas of English, Social Studies, Math, Science and World Language. Keep going in these areas for as long as you are capable of doing reasonably well!
Work hard in current courses and make a good impression on your current teachers so that you will have options to ask for letters of recommendation as needed.
Continue to be involved in the school & community.
Create a resume of your involvements and activities. Use the Frontier resume template.
Decide who to ask for letters of recommendation and Fill out the Request for Letter of Recommendation Form.
Prepare for and take standardized tests (SAT and ACT).
Research and visit colleges.
Maximize your summer - get involved in activities, volunteer, get a job, apply for internships in your field of interest, join a sports team.
Show an interest in colleges! Remember colleges want to hear from you, not your parents!
Show them you are interesting!
Use your essay for them to get to know you!
Spelling and grammar count! Check, double check and have a trusted adult proofread too!
Meet all of the deadlines.
Beware of Social Media which college admissions counselors, scholarship benefactors and employers are known to check!
Establish a professional email and voicemail message and check them regularly!
