In creating this new curriculum that would embellish and expand the foundations of Core Knowledge previously established, the first step is analysing the already-existing curricula of Core Knowledge. What follows is a research paper that analyzes The Core Knowledge Sequence through Connelly and Clandinin's commonplaces along with other curricular resources. The goal being: establishing the strengths and growing points of Core Knowledge that are adapted and changed in this new curriculum.
Within this research, the goal of crafting a new and more effective Core Knowledge Sequence adaptation becomes apparent. Cultural Literacy is changing. Literacy methods and American cultural contexts and necessities are changing. Core Knowledge, however, is not. This paper proves Core Knowledge's stability and establishes a need for an adaptation of teaching practices and focuses--even without changing the materials chosen for the sequence. In this new curriculum--contained in this website--I am seeking to do just that: create a new way to teach Core Knowledge that brings its materials into a more current culturally literate state.
