Topics
Part of the learning through the Just Transition Leadership Program will happen in modules. Each module will include a facilitated 2-hour virtual interactive session (synchronous learning), a virtual guest speaker presentation (synchronous learning), and a mini-project to incorporate part of the learned content together with previous individual and experiential knowledge (asynchronous learning). This mini-project can be complete individually or in small groups. Some modules might have a site visit instead of a mini-project.
This program offers 4 focus areas for the modules and some special presentations, organized around some focus areas:
Just transition [JT]
Power and governance [PG]
Communications [C]
Community-based participatory action research methodologies [CBPAR]
The following modules represent the topics that could be explored each month, although titles might change since we are still in the process of weaving a solidarity network with partner organizations and individuals to co-create the content for this first cohort:
Common or Required Modules (months 1-4). All participants will complete these modules.
[JT- 1] What is community organizing? Exploring a Just Transition
[PG-1] Principles of advocacy and civic engagement for social change
[C-1] Reclaiming the narrative: Communications for community organizing
[CBPAR-1] Adaptive community-based project design and implementation
Complementary Modules (months 5-6). Participants will have the chance to select 2 modules.
[JT- 2] Solidarity strategies to promote environmental and climate justice
[PG-2] Disrupting systems of oppression through collective action and community justice initiatives
[C-2] Communication Technologies and Liberation Movements
[CBPAR-2] Effective community-based project management and assessment
Special presentations (months 7-9). (90-minute commitment)
Collaborations with institutions and government agencies
Non-profit grants and resourcing the movement
Data sovereignty as a source of power
