How to help at home!
Your child's time is valuable and we want them to have a balance of work, play, and family time. We STRONGLY encourage you to practice letters and sounds, writing letters and numbers, reading, and sight words. There will not be any assigned homework in Kindergarten.
The most important thing that you can do is read with and TO your child for around 15 minutes each night. Your child's teacher will be sending reading material home with your child. Please practice reading and put the book back into your child's backpack, as it belongs to FISD.
Below you will find the Kindergarten sight words organized by nine weeks. These are the words that appear most often in printed material. Recognizing these words quickly by sight is valuable in your child becoming a fluent and confident reader. Practice with them often! Some of these words follow spelling rules and patterns and some DO NOT! Rather than asking your child to "sound it out," try asking them if it can be sounded out or if it is one that you just have to remember!
