What is All Region Orchestra?-

All Region Orchestra is an extra opportunity for students to participate in a special clinic and concert. Students are selected by an audition process for a spot in the Concert, Sinfonia, or Chamber Orchestra. This is the highest honor an individual middle school orchestra student can receive. In high school, students who successfully audition for All Region will also have the opportunity to audition for the All State Orchestra, which is the highest honor an individual HS orchestra student can receive.

2. What orchestra does my child audition for?

The three different All Region Orchestras are broken down by grade level. The Concert Orchestra is intended for 6th and 7th grade students who are generally 2nd year players. 8th grade students are not allowed to audition for this group. The Sinfonia/Chamber groups are intended for 8th graders, as well as highly advanced 6th and 7th grade students who have at least two years of prior experience. Your student has already been given music for their appropriate grade/ability level group.

3. When is the audition? How much does it cost? Who else is auditioning?

This year, auditions will be held on October 26th location TBA. Students will need to register for auditions with Mr. Byrd no later than October 1st. The fee to audition is $10.00. This audition is open to all currently enrolled orchestra students in Frisco ISD and Plano ISD middle schools.

4. If my student is selected to the All Region Orchestra, then what?

Students who are selected to Concert, Sinfonia, or Chamber groups will participate in the All Region Orchestra Clinic and Concert on a Friday and Saturday in November. This will take all evening on Friday and all day on Saturday. There will be a Friday evening rehearsal, a Saturday morning rehearsal, and a Saturday afternoon concert. Further details will be given to those students selected for the group.

5. My student says that this music is too hard! Should they still attend tutorials or go through the audition process? Is this required?

They're right, this is music is definitely challenging and harder than anything they've been presented before. That being said, I can assure you that it is possible for our students to learn this music, with individual help from a PRIVATE TEACHER. Mr. Byrd will only be available for Individual tutorials to students who have already started working on this music with their private lesson teacher. Regardless of their decision to audition or not, it will help them to become better musicians! Although the audition process is not required. Students who participate in the process this year, will be more comfortable with the audition process in the coming years.
