National Junior Honor Society
A chapter of National Junior Honor Society is being established at Bennett and Alma Griffin Middle School. NJHS is composed of 7th and 8th grade students who are outstanding in the areas of scholarship, character, citizenship, leadership, and service.
Students are selected for membership into the National Junior Honor Society using the following criteria:
I. Maintain a 94% average in the core subjects for the previous semester.
II. Attended Griffin Middle School for at least one semester.
III. Show the qualities of character, citizenship, leadership, and service (based on student application and letter of recommendation).
Each school year, there will be an induction ceremony for 7th and 8th grade students. The scholastic qualification for the spring induction is a 94 combined average in the core subjects for the previous fall semester. Core subjects include: ILA , history, math, and science. Six points will be added to the semester grades for the following advanced courses: pre-algebra and algebra, or any Pre-AP course. Upon qualifying scholastically, a student must also demonstrate his/her qualifications in the areas of character, citizenship, leadership, and service, in order to be chosen as a member of the NJHS. The induction will be for 7th grade students and for 8th grade students who may not have qualified in the previous spring but have since met the criteria for membership.
In order to remain a member of the National Junior Honor Society, students must maintain a 94% average each semester in the core subjects, attend meetings, participate in NJHS projects, serve their community for no less than 15 hours of service each semester, and continue to demonstrate the qualities of character, citizenship, leadership, and service.
Students who fail to
maintain an average of 94% each six weeks RC period will be required to attend one tutorial session each week in that class/classes or with a Sponsor until the next IPR period
submit 7.5 points on time each nine weeks will be required to complete two additional hours of community service before the end of semester
NOTE: Students who submit less than 15 points by the end of the first semester will be dismissed from NJHS membership
attend monthly meetings (1x/month) without reasonable and verified excuse will be
given a warning for the first absence
required to complete another hour of community service for the second absence with a probationary status
removed from membership in NJHS after the third absence
demonstrate the qualities of character, citizenship and leadership (IE: 3 or more C-Halls, ISS etc...) will be called in for a meeting with Sponsors and Officers. A student may also be assigned additional service hours or be dismissed from NJHS as a result of serious behavioral infractions.
