Communication online is a bit different than in a face-to-face setting. The biggest difference is that most online communication is via written text in an online environment. Because this means you are missing body language cues and immediate feedback from your “listener,” it is very important to understand some common rules for good online etiquette. This ensures that the message you intend to convey is received correctly.

There are so many online tools to choose from when you begin working on a digital project. How do you know what's best for your project and the message you want to convey? Think about the following.

1. What do you really need the learning tool to do?
   • Make a list of the things you need to accomplish.
   • Note which of these needs are at least partially addressed by tools you already use. Go with what you know. It's about the CONTENT, not about the tool.
2. Which tools will work on the accessible devices?
   • Is the website, app, or program available?
   • Is it compatible with the devices you can use?
3. Does it really help you learn?
   • After using the tool or app for a while, examine your use of it to make sure it really increases your productivity, lets you do things you couldn’t do before, helps you collaborate with your classmates or teachers, or makes learning tasks more enjoyable.
