The main focus of Dr. Bautista's research is teacher learning and professional development (PD). After completing his PhD at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain), he worked as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Victoria (Canada) and Tufts University (Boston, USA). Subsequently, Dr. Bautista joined Singapore's National Institute of Education, where he served as Research Scientist and Assistant Dean (Professional Learning). Dr. Bautista is currently an Associate Professor at EdUHK Department of Early Childhood Education, where he teaches courses and conducts research on teacher-child interaction, curriculum integration, and kindergarten teacher learning in the area of Arts and Creativity, particularly in Music and Movement. He has published in prestigious academic journals, both domain general (e.g., Early Childhood Research Quarterly, Professional Development in Education, Journal of Curriculum Studies) and specific to Music (e.g., Psychology of Music, Journal of Music Teacher Education, Music Education Research). He is an Associate Editor for the Journal for the Study of Education and Development" and Psychology, Society, & Education, and Editorial Board Member for the International Journal of Early Childhood.
