Honors STEM Capstone
S&E students complete Honors STEM Capstone class during their senior year. They either complete an internship during one semester and a project during the other semester or work on projects during both semesters. The internship is optional and is based on availability. In the past, our students completed internships with the following companies: CommVault, AT&T, Nokia BellLabs, Monmouth County Engineering, PEC, Girls in Space Club and Matrix New World Engineering. The list of projects and internships completed by our students during the last few years can be found here and also highlighted in the Journal of Science & Engineering (see below).
The Journal of Science & Engineering (J S&E)
The Journal of Science & Engineering (J S&E) is a peer-reviewed publication showcasing original research, short articles, and reports by our students in science and engineering. J S&E offers students a platform to share their work and engage in the peer-review process.
This journal provides an opportunity for students to develop essential skills in research, writing, and critical evaluation, while contributing to the academic community.
Events, Competitions, Clubs
Our students actively participate in a variety of academic and technical competitions, including Math League, Science League, CyberPatriot (Cybersecurity Club), AMC, FIRST Tech Challenge, SeaPerch (Robotics Club), and HOSA (Future Health Professionals). We regularly welcome guest speakers from organizations such as NASA, CommVault, and AT&T Labs, as well as professional societies like the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), to enrich our students’ learning experiences through real-world perspectives. Students also have opportunities to participate in field trips and outreach visits to leading research and engineering institutions, including NAVAIR Lakehurst, the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, and Gaming Laboratories International, as well as Engineering Day events hosted by Rutgers University and NJIT.
Mentorship and Leadership
S&E students have multiple opportunities to collaborate with their classmates, S&E students across the grades, and the entire district! Upperclassmen have opportunities to mentor 9th and 10th grade students and facilitate engineering challenges, including the district-wide event HackFREE. Additionally, our accomplished alumni actively support the program by sharing their experiences and insights, further enriching the learning environment.
Innovation, teamwork, and creativity take center stage once again at HackFRee 2026, FRHSD’s annual 14-hour hackathon hosted at Manalapan High School.
Learn how this student-led event continues to inspire the next generation of problem-solvers and how alumni have transformed their projects into nationally recognized successes. Building on Success: HackFRee 2026 Brings Students and Mentors Together Again!
Contests/Events Outside School
Every year our students participate and frequently get awarded prizes in different contests/events outside the school. This includes First Tech Challenge, New Jersey Southern Junior Science & Humanities Symposium (NJSJSHS), Jersey Shore Science Fair, Delaware Valley Science Fair, ISEF, Waksman Institute Summer Experience, InfoAge Museum and Inspirit AI. Our students have been invited to present their research at MIT, Harvard, IISE Seattle, and Singapore Expo and worked with Princeton University, Harvard University, Maryland University and Rutgers University mentors to complete independent research and projects.
