Academic Programing for 10th Graders

What classes do 10th graders take?
Most 10th grade students take English, History, Physical Education / Health, Science, Foreign Language, and an elective. Do 10th graders need to be concerned about graduation requirements?
Every year your school counselor will monitor your progress toward state graduation requirements. The requirements can be found here.

Why should I take the PSAT?

The PSAT will help you become familiar with the testing format of the SAT. Results of the PSAT should help your future performance on standardized tests as it will help identify the areas you need improvement.

All Freehold Regional High School 9th-11th graders take the PSATs during school hours in October.

What is the most reliable resource to use when starting to plan for the post-secondary transition?

SCOIR is the best system to use for post-secondary planning. All FRHSD students have an account and can use the system for searching and evaluating college options (and much more!). Check out our SCOIR tutorials page for more information.

Do we need to hire a private college counselor to assist in this process?

No! Our school counseling staff is dedicated to assisting students in understanding themselves by helping them to cultivate their skills, interests, and goals for the post-secondary transition. School counselors help students to develop a plan, identify possible options, and apply to all different types of colleges or universities, depending on what is the best fit for the student. To learn more about all of the grade-level activities and experiences school counselors provide students, please review our Guidance Road Map.

What is the timeline of the overall process - when should we be visiting campuses, applying, interviews, etc?

Getting ready for the post-secondary transition is unique to each student. For a general guideline of when and how to start this process, please review the Master Timeline: College Admissions reference offered by Khan Academy.
