High School Bear Highlights

Student Council Update: February

Listen up, students! The Student Council has a great senior high dance planned for March 9th from 7-10 pm in the Old Gym. This dance will be a “Goodbye to Winter” semi-formal, and tickets can be preordered during lunch, from Mrs. Thompson in Room 108, or bought at the door for $10 apiece. We have Pitch Black DJing coming back from last time, and concessions will be sold outside in the hallway. Feel free to bring someone from another school; all you have to do is make sure to fill out a form that you can get from the Main Office to get them approved by the school. Spread the word! We can’t wait to see you there!

Before winter break, Frewsburg students gathered in the school's second pep rally this year. The pep rally was announced with short notice, leaving many students wondering why the school was having a rally so unprompted. Well, as many students would have seen regarding the theme of the pep rally, the school wanted to show off the new gym, which has been recently renovated, and celebrate the start of the basketball season.

Besides just the basketball seasons, many different teams that our school offered were able to be showcased. From indoor track to swimming and diving to bowling, students were able to see the rosters for each of the teams and hear a bit from their respective captains.

While many were confused by the premise of the rally overall, the student body seemed to have a good time with the demonstration. At the start of the rally, students were able to watch their sports teams compete in a basketball-centered challenge which required the different teams to compete in a shooting contest. It may have been a bit hard to watch, considering some of the teams' coordination skills, but everybody had a great time watching their fellow students compete in this fun challenge.

Following this mini-competition, the basketball team was able to demonstrate some of their skills to the student population in a shoot-off. The school was trying to drum up support for the basketball game that would be following that night which opened the season for them.

Would You Please "Hang Up and Drive"?

SADD Brings It In

Our SADD Club sponsored a "Hang Up and Drive" assembly with guest speakers Jacy Good and Steve Johnson. Their heartfelt story about Jacey's accident on her college graduation day resinated with students and staff, encouraging everyone to not just refrain from texting and driving, but also, to avoid distracted driving. This was a strong message that will hopefully help save lives. Feedback from students can be read below.

Sydney: "It was very touching, and heartfelt, it made people come to realize how bad car accidents can be"

Aidan:  "I've never seen our whole school paying so much attention. It was extremely inspiring to all in attendance"

Aleah:  "It was a truly inspiring story that brought much needed attention to a serious, overlooked issue."

Kealy: "It was very impactful for the whole student body, and how tragedy can affect people. They gave a good visual on what can happen when we text and drive."
