Band and Chorus Concerts
By Zoe Chitester
Students in grades seven and eight performed in band and chorus concerts on Tuesday, May 20, and students in grades nine through twelve performed the next day on May 21.
There were many noticeable amazing moments when you could tell each student was working with everyone else, producing the best sound of the night. At other times, you could tell when some students were playing or singing much louder than others, creating a disturbance in the blend. Overall, the students' hard work of the last three months paid off in a nice performance for friends and family.
There were also many written solo opportunities throughout the night. Middle and high school chorus featured students that previously auditioned. Students in high school Jazz Band were able to perform
improvised solos with backgrounds from the rest of the band. This added a nice change to the songs, keeping the listeners interested. A few students in the middle and high school concert band got to play written solos. This was a great opportunity for audience members to hear individual instruments.
Projecting the name of the piece that was being performed and the soloists on the screen onstage made it easy to know what was happening, rather than having to look in the program that was handed out at the beginning. Having the background of songs talked about before each song made it more interesting, being able to hear the story in each song.
Overall, I would say that all of the students in grades seven through twelve did a great job providing a very enjoyable night for everyone; friends, family, and community members.
