Hello! My name is Mrs. Hamaker and I am your/ your child's  Orchestra teacher at Fremont City Schools. I look forward to seeing you in person and hope that you have been well. A little bit about me... I taught in Toledo for 15 years before coming to Fremont. I am in my 7th year in this position and have had the joy of working with some of the best student musicians in Fremont. While I know that there are many question on how we are going to get going, I also know that we will be a work in progress. Please be watching for emails to you or your student to keep in touch with the day-to-day information that may be necessary to share with you. I welcome our new 6th grade students and am eager to meet you!

Google Classroom codes will be emailed to your student. Please watch for the invite.

In your Google Classroom will be placed the student handbook for each grade level. This is for orchestra students in grades 6 - 12 only.  Google Classroom will be where you go to put in your practice logs and Google Forms will be where you will find short reading assignments, quizzes, and instructional feedback. Submitting video performance tests will be uploaded to your Google Classroom for grading and specific instructional feedback on continued improvements.

I will make every effort to video myself teaching and post the video to my Youtube channel, or directly to Google Classroom. Students may find their assignments and playing tests demonstrated on the appropriate Youtube video. They will be titled for grade and specifice music being demonstrated. If there are questions about the assignments or anything else, please let me know at hamakere@fremontschools.net

Parent Information for student assignments.

Your student needs to complete a practice log for each week we are in session. Practice time outside of class is critical for maintaining skills and building new ones. Students should dedicate 20 - 30 minutes of practice time 5 days/week. They should then go to Google Classroom and click on the Practice log tab for the current week. Place a yes or no in each of the daily dated spaces, name, and submit. I will get notification that they have completed the work.

There are Google Docs in their Google Classrooms with training videos. The video links will take your student to my Youtube channel. Each video is about 4 - 10 minutes with full description and guidance from me on how to complete tasks and assignments on their string instrument. Some of the videos contain concert pieces, others are exercises from their book. There are specific exercises that comprise their playing tests.

Concert dates: Concert dates are in the FCS district calendar. I will do my best to adhere to that schedule. A live audience and student participation is necessary to celebrate student achievement. A concert showcases the skills that your child has been working on,  Your student is required to attend all concert events as these events are graded.

Students may be asked to Zoom during class time  should we be shut down again. This will help facilitate continuous and consistent learning for the students in preparation for our concert.

Ross Orchestra Freshmen students need to order their Tuxedo shirts, and black performance vests  for performances. They will need to go to the Uniform Shoppe at 110 S. Front. Measurement takes only a few minutes, call ahead for COVID hours. 419-355-1277. Please tell the person in charge that you are with the Ross Orchestra.

 Veterans Day Program

View the Veterans Day Program on the following link. Although this program is much different than in the past it is no less appreciative of the veterans who gave so much.  The Ross String Quartet plays, and the FRMLG plays too! Thank you to our Veterans! Enjoy.
