Restart Read Alouds Chapters 16-30



Most people have seen that Chase is very different from who he used to be before the fall, but some people still have doubts as to whether or not he has really changed. Shoshanna is one of them.

In this chapter, let’s see where Shoshanna stands on her viewpoint of Chase. Is forgiveness a possibility? Do you think Chase deserves forgiveness after what he did to her brother?



In the last chapter we saw how Shoshanna’s opinion of Chase has changed from the beginning of the book till now. In this chapter, it is the first time we will hear from Joel’s perspective and see how he reacts to the situation he has been put in.

The way a character reacts in tough situations tells us a lot about the type of character they are. As you read about how he reacts, think about how you would have reacted if you were in his shoes? What have you learned about Joel?



In this chapter, Chase has several “AHA Moments” when he realizes the impact that he has had on Joel’s life. He also finds out more about what he was like before his accident.

In this chapter, Chase is put in a situation where he needs to make a decision, and answer some of the tough questions he’s thought of: Who does he want to be? The person he was before the accident or the person he has grown into with his “Restart”? What do you think he should choose?

In this chapter we find out how Shoshanna feels about Chase and the incident in the music room. As a reader, it’s important to stop and think about how we feel about the characters in the book.

Do people deserve second chances? Does Chase deserve a second chance because he has no memory of the things he did and he believes he has changed?

In this chapter Joel gets to decide for himself if he thinks Chase has changed. He also reflects on his own past and knows that it doesn’t define him.

In our final chapter, we hear from Brendan Espinosa and his final thoughts. This part of the text is always a favorite part of mine, as I get to see how the author ties everything up.
