In this first chapter, we meet Chase Ambrose, the main character, who is telling his story and what he remembers from his fall. As a reader, we start to build theories about the characters when we first meet them based off their actions and thoughts.

As we read today, let’s start building our own theories on the type of person Chase is and the type of person he WAS. Pay attention to the “Tough Question” he asks himself at the end of the chapter.

This chapter is told from Shoshanna Weber’s point of view. As we read, find out what her relationship is to Chase and how she feels about Chase. Think about how you might feel if you were in her shoes?

In this chapter Brendan has his first encounter with Chase, and it is a complete CONTRAST to what he expects.

In this chapter, Chase describes his experience going to the assisted living home for his community service with Aaron and Bear. Notice how Chase acts and thinks very differently than his two friends at this point in the book.

In this chapter we will hear from Kimberly Tooley and find out about how she feels about Chase. We will also see how Chase does something that surprises everybody and is a contrast to the Chase he used to be.

This is the first time we hear from one of Chase’s “best friends”. We found out how Aaron is feeling about Chase having amnesia and he asks himself some tough questions.

We know Shoshanna Weber thinks Chase is her worst enemy. But in this chapter, she needs to make some choices about how she wants to handle the situation she’s been put in. Often times, the decisions a character makes reveals a lot about the type of character they are.
