Read the article assigned to your group. You can choose a paper or digital copy.
Learn: We will use the Iron Chef protocol for this activity. Use the information you read about in the handout (or digital copy) to answer the following questions on your group’s slide in the slide deck:
How does this protocol help meet each of the 4 lenses of learning?
How long does this activity take?
Frequency of use? (daily, every so often, etc.)
Secret Ingredient: do a # search for your protocol and link some examples
Process: Make a copy of this handout and jot some notes about what you remember and your thoughts about each protocol.
Pick 3 protocols you think you will use the most this year. Start with your first protocol. Visit the page on this site that is dedicated to that protocol and explore all the resources provided. Every 10 minutes we’ll switch to a new protocol.
Make notes on your handout about what you learn.
Where and when can you use this protocol?
What modifications can be made to this activity for all learners?
What technical set up is necessary to use this protocol?
We will go through the Smart Start version of the following protocols:
Cyber Sandwich
Great American Race
Sketch & Tell
Number Mania
Math Reps & 8*pARTS
Use the list below to help you set up and manage EduProtocols in your classroom:
If you want each student to have a copy of something in Google, use the Force a Copy trick.
Open a copy of a template to create a new slide deck. Each time you need a new one, Make a Copy.
Use Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V or right click and select Duplicate to make multiple copies of a slide.
In Schoology, create a page for each type of protocol with directions in your Resources folder.
Use a URL shrinker in order to share links quickly with students if you don't want to use Schoology.
Use image backgrounds for content you don't want students to move or edit.
Create a "revolving directions" GIF with Tall Tweets. Click here and scroll to the bottom to learn how.
Click here to open a shared Jamboard. On each "page" of the Jamboard (page controls are at the top), post a sticky note with one idea you have for how you want to use this protocol in your classroom this year.
