Neurodiversity
NEURODIVERSITY recognizes and respects the natural variations in how people think, learn, and experience the world. This includes conditions like Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, dyslexia, and others. Content should promote understanding, inclusivity, and accurate representation of neurodivergent individuals, avoiding stereotypes or stigmatization.
Content that respectfully depicts neurodivergent individuals in everyday contexts, highlights their strengths and contributions, and raises awareness in a positive and empowering way. Inclusive visuals, such as individuals using assistive tools or engaging in sensory-friendly activities, are also welcomed.
Content that reinforces negative stereotypes, mocks or trivializes neurological differences, or portrays neurodivergent individuals as burdens or objects of pity. Depictions that sensationalize or overly simplify these conditions are also not acceptable.
The use of the puzzle piece as a symbol for autism has been criticized by many within the autistic community. It is seen as problematic because it implies that autistic individuals are "incomplete" or need to "fit in" with society. Additionally, the puzzle piece has been historically associated with organizations that have promoted negative narratives about autism, focusing on "curing" it rather than embracing neurodiversity. As an alternative, more inclusive symbols like the rainbow infinity (representing the diversity within the autism spectrum) are recommended to promote a positive and respectful perspective.
Discrimination and Inclusion
DISCRIMINATION AND INCLUSION: This section promotes equality by avoiding stereotypes or prejudices based on race, gender, sexuality, or disability. Content should celebrate diversity and foster inclusion through respectful and empowering representation.
Content that celebrates diversity, portrays individuals of all backgrounds respectfully, and promotes inclusion. This includes imagery of people collaborating, diverse cultural traditions, and empowering representations of marginalized groups.
Content that perpetuates stereotypes, excludes or mocks any group, or portrays discrimination or prejudice. This includes imagery reinforcing biases or using caricatures to depict cultural, gender, or social identities.
Bullying and Harassment
BULLYING: It is the intentional and repeated exposure to physical and psychological harm that a child suffers from another individual or group of individuals when attending school.
WORKPLACE HARASSMENT (Mobbing): Workplace mobbing or workplace harassment refers to those behaviors of intimidating, hostile, or degrading treatment exercised by certain individuals repeatedly and unjustifiably towards one or more others at work.
Images that depict the concept in a dramatized and subtle environment.
Images that depict the concept in a very violent or explicit manner. Also, those that appear to be a real situation.
Body Image and Eating Disorders
This section focuses on promoting healthy and inclusive representations of body image while raising awareness about eating disorders. Content should celebrate body diversity, encourage self-acceptance, and avoid reinforcing harmful beauty standards. Imagery must be empowering and supportive, steering clear of stereotypes or depictions that glorify unhealthy behaviors or body ideals.
Content that promotes positive body image, represents diverse body types, and encourages self-acceptance. Imagery should focus on empowerment, health, and inclusivity, such as individuals confidently engaging in activities or celebrating their bodies without judgment.
Content that glorifies unhealthy body standards, promotes eating disorders, or encourages body shaming. This includes imagery of extreme thinness as an ideal, depictions of harmful eating behaviors, or content that mocks or stigmatizes individuals based on their appearance.
Mental Health
Mental health is a vital aspect of overall well-being, and content should focus on fostering understanding, empathy, and support. It is essential to depict mental health topics in a respectful and inclusive manner, promoting self-care, open conversations, and access to help. Representations should challenge stigma and avoid reinforcing stereotypes or minimizing the complexity of mental health experiences.
Content that promotes awareness, encourages self-care, and normalizes seeking support, such as therapy, mindfulness, or open discussions about mental well-being.
Content that stigmatizes mental health conditions, trivializes struggles, or misrepresents therapy, medication, or recovery.
Self-Harm or Suicide
Self-harm and suicide are deeply sensitive topics that require careful and respectful representation. Content should focus on prevention, awareness, and offering hope, while avoiding any imagery or language that could glamorize, normalize, or trigger harmful behaviors. The goal is to promote understanding, encourage seeking support, and provide resources for those in need.
Content that raises awareness about suicide prevention and self-harm recovery, provides resources for support, or promotes messages of hope and resilience. Imagery that symbolically references suicide (e.g., abstract visuals or metaphors) without depicting real or graphic situations is also acceptable.
Content that depicts self-harm or suicide graphically, romanticizes these behaviors, or includes imagery that could trigger or encourage harmful actions.
