Reading

The library is a place for all students to grow as readers and learners. Growing as a reader is essential to lifelong learning. Students will get an opportunity to borrow book(s) each time they visit the library. During library instruction, students are taught how to locate a book in the library using the Destiny Catalog and the Dewey Decimal System. The library contains picture books, chapter books, nonfiction books and reference books. Students are also taught how to find a "just right" book so they can choose books independently based on their interests and abilities. Learning about fiction and nonfiction genres will also help students to locate books tailored to their individual needs and interests. It is important that students have an opportunity to select books they can enjoy reading during their time in the library.
