What is Section 504? Section 504 is a federal civil rights statute which protects the rights of students with disabilities. A student is eligible under Section 504 if s/he/they have had a record of having, or is regarded as having a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits or impacts a major life function such as: walking, seeing, hearing, breathing, learning, speaking, working, caring for oneself, or performing manual tasks. A 504 accommodation plan is designed for each student according to individual need.
