Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

1. Will there be full band rehearsals before or after school?

YES. In order to give students the best performance experience possible, it is necessary to have after school rehearsals. This allows students to practice and play their band music as an ensemble (very different from band class or practicing individual parts at home), working together to make a cohesive sound.

2. When do after school band rehearsals occur?

After School band will take place once a week from the end of the school day until 3:30PM. Here is the planned schedule for the 2022-2023 school year:

Fall (Beginning in October)

Mondays: 7th and 8th Grade Band Rehearsal

Thursdays: 6th Grade Band Rehearsal

****Parents are responsible for arranging a timely ride home for their son/daughter after rehearsals.****

Spring (Beginning in February)

Mondays: 7th and 8th Grade Band Rehearsal

Thursdays: 6th Grade Band Rehearsal

****Parents are responsible for arranging a timely ride home for their son/daughter after rehearsals.****

3. Do after school sports and other clubs conflict with band/is there a compromise that can be made?

YES and YES. Throughout the year I converse with coaches and club advisors to coordinate games, meets and club meetings for the school year. Once their schedules are set, we will come up with a fair compromise that allows students to participate in both activities. Once this compromise is made I will alert the students and parents involved, and students will follow the schedule created for them.

4. What if I play in band now and want to also take another related arts elective in middle school?

  • Due to the design of the middle school schedule, 6th graders have to choose a Full Year (FY) of Band, Chorus, or Exploratory (one marking period of Digital Arts, one of Art, one of Music Exploration, one of STEM).

As a 7th and 8th grader, the middle school schedule opens up and allows students to take one of the following:

  • Three Semester-long courses

OR

  • One Full Year course and one Semester-long course.

Full Year course options:

  • Art, Band, Chorus, Digital Arts, Music Exploration

Semester course options:

  • Art, Design and Modeling, Digital Arts, Music Exploration

5. Will I get graded for band?

YES! Students will be assessed on a variety of musical concepts throughout the year. STUDENTS EARN THEIR GRADES through playing and written assessments. As long as students practice at home on a regular basis, come to class prepared, and pay attention to lesson material, they will do very well in band :)
