Why does my child see you in a reading group?
Your child's teacher has identified that they are struggling with a specific topic or skill in either reading, phonics, or writing. This is something they have already covered in class, or is a prerequisite to some crucial learning they will be doing this year. Your child could use some extra practice to help them master the skill, and your child's teacher has asked me to help.
OR! Your child has a formal diagnosis of dyslexia, and they see me as part of their IEP programming.
When is reading group?
Reading groups meet 2-3 days a week for 15-20 minutes during their ELA block in their classroom OR out of class during Enrichment. This means your child is not missing any of their typical instruction.
What happens during reading group?
We spend our time in group working on the specific skills that students need to fill their gaps in learning. This might look like reading, writing, doing phonics drills, and even playing games. We progress monitor frequently, normally every 2-3 weeks, to make sure students are acquiring the skills they need to get caught up.
