Our Art Room is decorated with a Rainbow winter tree! Thank you to our Artists who decorated ornaments to fill our beautiful tree!
Objectives: Analyze Form and line variety in a still life through the practice of observational drawing.
Design and create a winter mug using a horizon line, line variety, patterns, texture, and watercolor techniques.
Students use a variety of mediums for this project including oil pastels, watercolor, construction paper and marker. We celebrated with a hot chocolate party!
Students' objective is to choose two artworks they would like to showcase at the Art Show. Students lay out all of their work and do a gallery walk, displaying their artwork for their classmates to see. This is a nice way for students to reflect on what they have accomplished, Students named their own artwork and created their own tag for the Art Show.
6th Grade Objectives:
Using a variety of clay techniques, design a Pop Art clay dish with raised edges and textured details, using craftsmanship in sculpting and painting.
As a class we discussed Pop Art and how it represented popular things during the 1950s/60s. Students discussed popular topics today, choosing things that are popular to them, then designing and creating them out of clay. Students learned clay techniques such as additive/subtractive relief, slip/score, kneading, smoothing, and more.
5th Grade Objectives:
Build a paper mache Alebrijes fish colored with acrylic paint designed with contrast, line variety, and craftsmanship.
Understand that Alebrijes are Mexican Folk Spirit Animals that were magically unique, originally created by Pedro Linares.
5th Grade Objectives:
Demonstrate understanding of observational drawing by creating a contour line drawing of a still life pumpkin.
Understand foreground, middle ground, and background, creating space within a artwork using overlapping.
Using techniques practiced in this lesson, create your own Yayoi Kusama artwork with at least 1-3 pumpkins with balance and line variety using construction paper, scissors, glue, and markers.
Artists learned how to draw pumpkins using real still life pumpkins freshly picked. Artists drew these pumpkins on colorful paper, adding dots in the style of Yayoi Kusama. Afterwards, they used texture boards to paint and print texture onto their complimentary colored background. Students overlapped these pumpkins using space, creating a foreground, middle ground, and background.
"It helped with my pumpkin drawings" -Liam
"I like this project because I did overlapping with space"
-Cassie
"I like that the colors pop!"
-Myalee
"I like how the dots made a cool pattern" -Audrey

5th Grade Objective:
Design an American Gothic Parody by researching personal characters, transferring them onto watercolor paper, and creating a background including a house and pitch fork.
Create color in an American Gothic Parody by water coloring and using colored pencils, adding value and texture.
American Gothic is a painting done by Grant Wood in 1930. In 1930, American Artists sought individuality from European Artists- creating unique artwork that reflects America. An example of this is American Gothic which portrayed American home life during the Great Depression. This artwork overtime became a subject of parodies. Artists' objective was to create an American Gothic Parody with their favorite characters!

6th Grade Objectives
Analyze line variety in a still life candy.
Demonstrate an understanding of observational contour line drawing by drawing a candy still life using grid method, then adding color.
Reutter's Artists were asked to lay out a composition of candy on a grid, and draw a grid on a larger piece of paper to use grid-method in order to draw their candy. Artists added color and value, using complimentary colors to add shadows. At the end of the project, they were allowed to eat some candy!

"I liked the shading. I will take away the grid-method because it helped with the sizing." -Haidyn
"I liked this project because it was fun to draw the candy. I like my skittles logo the most. Next time I would add an extra skittle. I learned how to use a rubric in art :)" -Keira

Evelyn Trout designed our 2024 March Calendar!
Objectives:
Investigate Chinese New Year, understanding the difference between Eastern and Western Dragons.
Design an Eastern Chinese Dragon using texture and line variety.
Color your dragon using black sharpie to outline, oil pastel to add texture, and watercolor to demonstrate wax-resist, color mixing, and craftsmanship.
If a student selected an Eastern Dragon (Chinese), they would choose a Chinese symbol representing them. If a student chose a Western Dragon (Medieval), they would use Medieval font to write a word that represented them.
Objectives:
Practice handling clay using your hands and clay tools.
Create a clay castle with unity and texture using a variety of clay techniques.
