Mrs. Hollis

Welcome to Custer Baker! My name is Stacy Hollis, and this is my 12th year of teaching . In my twelve years here, I have always taught English Language Arts . This year I get to add Social Studies, and I am very excited! I love helping 5th graders see the world through another's eyes, to care about others, and to think critically. A good book and learning about the world can do all these things. I also believe writing is a way of thinking, and we work on this all year long in both Language Arts and Social Studies- organizing our ideas so that we can communicate clearly with others. It is one of the greatest life skills one can ever acquire.

I grew up near Vincennes, Indiana and then left my tiny wide-spot-in-the-road hometown to join the US Air Force. I was active duty for four years, mostly near Fairfield, California. I worked in the microbiology lab in the medical center at Travis Air Force Base, and then also at a local hospital after my time in the military. It was in the Air Force that I met my husband. We continued to live in California for several more years before the birth of our third child forced us to look for a larger home. I knew if we bought a larger home in California at that time that I would never make it back home to Indiana to live and raise our family. So we sold our house, loaded up everything we owned in a U-Haul, and drove cross country with a 4 year old, a 1 year old, and a 6 week old. I don't recommend this! That was in 2002, and we have lived in Franklin ever since.

My husband, Joey, and I have been married for 26 years. Our oldest son, Sam, graduated from FCHS in 2015. He has attended Indiana University and is currently getting ready to start his third year studying law at Exeter University in England. Our middle son, Aaron, graduated from FCHS in 2019 and will be starting his second year at Franklin College to study Biology. Our youngest son, Tristan, is a 2020 graduate of FCHS. He will be taking classes at Ivy Tech.

In my spare time I love reading and learning new things. I am a huge Jeopardy fan. I also love making dinner for my family, and I honestly do love folding laundry. It is my few moments of zen in the evening. It's quiet, solitary, and I can let my mind wander. I'm passionate about learning about other places in the world and other cultures. Sam and I visited France in 2015, and I hope I get to travel to lots of places someday after my kids are grown and don't take all my money. (Hopefully that is someday!) Last Fall I was able to travel to England using a 10 X grant from Franklin Schools. It was wonderful. I was able to visit a 5th grade classroom there.

Thank you for sharing your child with me! I look forward to getting to know them throughout the year. If there is ever anything I can do for you, please let me know. I am looking forward to a great year.
