Mr. Mello has been teaching social studies to middle and high school students for twenty years. He began his career with practicum graduate work in Springfield, Massachusetts through the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. This was followed by a two-year stretch teaching U.S. and world history at a charter school outside of Boulder, Colorado. Mr. Mello began teaching at Annie Sullivan Middle School in the fall of 2006. Mr. Mello has thoroughly enjoyed his time in Franklin. He has a great deal of passion for the history and geography that he teaches, and a deep appreciation for the students and families with whom he works.
In addition to teaching, Mr. Mello has a passion for travel. Mr. Mello has had the opportunity to help lead educational tours to Paris and Normandy in France, Berlin, Germany, Krakow, Poland, Italy, Greece, New Zealand, Australia, and Hawaii. Mr. Mello has also had the opportunity to visit many sites in the American West, including Colorado, Santa Fe and Taos in New Mexico, Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks in Wyoming, Salt Lake City, and Anchorage & Fairbanks, Alaska on his own. Finally, Mr. Mello has had the opportunity to visit Ireland on two occasions. These travels have served to enhance his understanding and appreciation for the history and geography that he teaches, and have contributed to Mr. Mello's passion for life-long learning, and his enthusiasm for introducing young people to the cultures of the world.
Finally, in addition to history, geography, travel, and education, Mr. Mello is passionate about music, dogs, sports, and his family. Mr. Mello is married and has been blessed with three children: Aurelia, Isaac, and Greta. He tries to instill in each of them a love for reading and learning about the world. Mr. Mello also has a dog, Henry (named for King Henry II of England... not King Henry VIII), and enjoys hiking and running with his dog. Mr. Mello also plays the guitar and enjoys playing music with his three brothers. Mr. Mello is an avid Boston sports fan, and enjoys playing basketball and tennis whenever time allows.
