School counselors do not provide therapy services, however they can refer students to therapy services if given parent permission. Franklin City Schools has partnered with Catalyst Counseling to provide a location for student to receive school based therapy. Students who see a Catalyst therapist have the option to have their therapy sessions during the school day at Franklin Junior High, making it convenient for families. Catalyst also offers outpatient services if the family would prefer for these services to take place outside of the school setting. Catalyst services can be billed through insurance (they take both public and private) or they can be paid out of pocket. Reach out to the School Counselor to find out if your insurance is accepted by Catalyst or with any other questions about this partnership.
Here is how to reach out if you have concerns about your child's mental or emotional health and are interested in therapy services for your child:
Speak to your child’s school counselor to request for your child to be referred to Catalyst Counseling. All the School Counselor needs in order to submit the referral is:
Parent consent
Insurance name
Summary of concern/ reason for referral
Once Catalyst has received the referral, their intake department will contact you to follow up. This may be a call, text, or email.
Catalyst will have some paperwork for you to fill out and get back to them prior to services beginning.
After returning the completed paperwork, you will work with Catalyst to schedule an initial intake in order to learn more about you and your child and set individualized goals for treatment.
Once this is completed, your therapist will set up a time to meet with your student. This could be on a weekly basis or a monthly basis, it is decided on a case by case basis. If choosing to receive services during the school day, the therapist will work with the School Counselor and possibly teachers in order to find a time to meet that is least disruptive to your child's education.
