Proper Care of Devices

The device policies are a standard guideline by which students are expected to follow while in possession of ANY school owned property. These devices are provided for the students to ensure they have access to a 21st Century learning environment. Prior to COVID-19 closure, SSS students were not permitted to take the devices home. Now, it is imperative all of our students have digital access in order to continue educating them at a high level. We hope that everyone will do their part in helping keep the devices safe from damage as we do not have an unlimited supply of devices. Please read and be advised of the policy in which your student(s) are expected to adhere to. Both device policies are still in effect during this unprecedented time.

Cleaning of devices

DO’s:

Power off your device and unplug all external power sources, devices, and cables before cleaning

Use only a soft, lint-free cloth or any other electronic approved cleaning wipe to gently clean the device

Avoid abrasive cloths, towels, paper towels, or similar items unapproved for cleaning delicate devices

Avoid excessive wiping, especially on the screen, which might cause damage or discoloration

Always allow your device to dry completely before powering it back on. After cleaning with a solution of any type it is recommended to dry the unit with another soft, lint-free cloth

Examples of approved cleaning wipes would be Endust®/Windex® for Electronics®, eyeglass cleaners, or a dampened (not saturated) soft cloth with distilled water. A 70% isopropyl alcohol based solution cleaning agent may be used on your device’s non-porous surfaces for disinfection purposes.

DONT’s:

Never use an extremely damp or saturated cloth or wipe to clean your device

Never use excessive force when cleaning your device, especially on the screen and keyboard

Never use aerosol sprays, bleaches, peroxides, acetone, abrasives, or other general disinfectant sprays

Never spray cleaners directly onto your device, submerge it, or allow a solution to pool on any surfaces of the device for an extended period of time

Never use standard glass cleaners (e.g. Windex\Glance) to clean your computer screen

Keep cleaning liquids that may spill away from your device or get moisture into any openings
