At St Francis of Assisi we are: skilled readers, confident writers, mathematicians, scientists, historians, geographers, musicians, artists, linguists, theologists, athletes, programmers and designers. We want our children to have no limits to what their ambitions are. St Francis once said, “Start by doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.” We believe, like St Francis, that nothing is impossible or out of our reach. Our curriculum is carefully crafted so that our children develop their academic, social and cultural capital and teaches them that possibilities are endless.
Our broad and balanced curriculum promotes curiosity and a love and thirst for learning. It is ambitious and empowers our children to become independent and resilient. We strive for academic excellence and want our children to have high aspirations for themselves. The bespoke design of our curriculum ensures that an effective balance of broad learning opportunities are available for the holistic development of our children.
Our curriculum has been carefully built and the learning opportunities and assessment milestones for each year group crafted to ensure progression and repetition in terms of embedding key learning, knowledge and skills.
Our core values underpin all areas of our curriculum. Joy, Faith, Wellbeing, Possibilities and Community are central to everything we do and our curriculum is deigned to offer regular opportunities to promote and develop these values.
Similarly, the 5 Ways to Wellbeing are key to our children's learning experiences. Our broad and balanced curriculum enables children to experience opportunities that develop and promote positive wellbeing, strengthening their resilience.
Formative assessment is used daily by teachers to inform planning and establish any short-term interventions required. This helps us provide the best possible support for all of our pupils, including the more able. Summative assessment is carried out termly to inform longer-term planning and identify any interventions required. Again, this includes our for more able. Proof of progress(POP) tasks are carried out at the end of units of work in foundation subjects to allow children the opportunity to demonstrate acquired knowledge and perform skills using this knowledge.
Year group specific knowledge organisers for units of work and links to helpful resources can be found on our Class Websites. Children will need their Google login to access these websites. Click the button below to go to the Class Websites page.
