Please see the homework page for weekly assignments.

Important Information

Independent Investigation Update-5/20/19 :

In class presentations will be held over the next few weeks. Please note that if your child has been given a presentation date that is after iNight, they still need to bring all completed work to school by Monday, June 3rd for King and Tuesday, June 4th for Stapleton. I will transport all displays and "manageable" products to Walsh Middle school on June 5th. If your child's product is large and / or fragile, please plan to bring it to Walsh on your own. However, nothing should arrive at iNight without me being able to see it first. In cases of large products, please send a photo of it for me to see.

Any student using technology needs to provide their own charged device. We will be provided with guest login information when we arrive at Walsh.

Independent Investigation Update-5/6/19 and 5/13/19:

At this point, all students should be working on creating their display (tri-fold board or other creative idea). Additionally, all students have created a Product plan and should now be working on creating the product.

Most students have completed research and have well written paragraphs on their slides. These paragraphs along with related images can be printed and put onto their display. Students should proofread their work before printing. If you do not have access to a printer, please let me know as soon as possible. I can get things printed but there will be a few days of wait time involved.

*******In class presentations will be held during the following weeks:

May 27th, June 3rd, and June 10th

Students will be assigned a date at their next class.

Independent Investigation Update-4/29/19:

As students near the end of the research and paragraph writing process, it is time to plan the product they want to make using their new knowledge. This product needs to be an original creation or idea and not something that already exists. (Please see the possible products list below for ideas.)Additionally, students have learned about the higher levels of Bloom's Taxonomy and should be using them as they work on this phase of the investigation.

Some examples of how this might be done include:

· Compare and contrast two aspects of something related to the topic

· Conduct an experiment and analyze the results

· Predict future events related to your topic and provide reasoning

· Create an original product that synthesizes the information you have gathered (create books, magazines, games, etc.)

· Create an ideal environment for an animal that requires analysis of its needs

· Create a plan to help save an endangered species or bring about change in something

· Make a judgment about what factor is most important in relation to your topic and provide reasoning (historical events; animals-senses, body parts; sports figure- skills, strategies)

Please note that students are given time to work on this project during their Sage class. However, students usually need to put in some additional time at home on this project.

Independent Investigation Update-4/15/19:

All students should be nearing the end of the research process and beginning to work on writing paragraphs that answer their original questions. Students should also be planning any field trips, conducting interviews, and/or gaining information through a survey if they have planned to do so. The next step will be developing a product plan. Please see the timeline below for more information.

Students in grades 4 and 5 have begun the Independent Investigation process. They have brainstormed potential topics and been asked to do some pre-researching to help narrow down their choices and locate some useful resources.

At this point, most students have selected a topic, written guiding questions and an over-arching problem statement, and have begun the research process. Students have access to a Google classroom account where they will find a Google slide template for note-taking, as well as many helpful resources.

Please check the resource links and timeline below for helpful information. Please note that students should not be creating a tri-fold display board until all research and paragraph writing has been completed.

**New this year is the option to change the method of display. It may still be a tri-fold board but it does not have to be one. Smaller tri-folds as well as other creative ideas can also be used. Guidelines for important paragraphs will be provided soon.

Please see the important timeline below.
