Newsletter - 7th October 2022
As our new projects for the Autumn Term have been launched with a Brilliant Beginning, we have also enjoyed having our parents and families in school for Information and Busy Learning sessions in Early Years and Year 1. It was lovely to see such a huge number attending both of these events. The children were so excited have their grown-ups spend time with them in their classrooms and incredibly proud to share their learning too. Our thanks to all those who were able to come along. We hope you found the information sessions useful - and had lots of fun in the classrooms as well, of course! Our Year 2 Information and Busy Learning session is on Tuesday 11th October. We hope you can join us.
As part of our learning about Harvest, Emma Olorenshaw, Children’s Worker at St Peter’s Church, Maidenhead will be visiting our school to lead a special assembly for our Year 1 and 2 children on Thursday 20th October. We are very proud to be supporting Maidenhead Foodshare again this year. We know that the work done by Foodshare does so much to help children and families within our local community - and at this time there is more need than ever before. Therefore, if you are able to make a donation, it would be very much appreaciated indeed. More details to follow...
Have a lovely weekend :)

On Tuesday 1st November, Mrs Singh will be holding a Parents' Workshop entitled 'Managing Behaviour - providing consistency between home and school'. This will be at 9.15am in FPIS school hall and all parents are welcome.
This is a repeat of the workshops held in May 2022, which outlined FPPF's Behaviour and Relationships Policy and how it is implemented in school, providing some helpful strategies to use at home.
Some positive comments from parents who attended in May are:
"I want to congratulate and thank you on building this workshop which is going to touch and make many lives better."
"It is a great initiative as its not just going to help kids for their future but parents too, helping establish emotional connection with their children."
"The workshop was well thought out and extremely positive."
Please sign up here if you plan on attending so we have an idea of numbers:
Last week the Early Years children started their Brilliant Beginning by all taking part in a giant game of Guess Who? They had great fun choosing their disguises and trying to work out who was in the photographs. All of the adults dressed up too! During project this week we have explored the question, What makes you and your friends unique? The children have enjoyed learning more about themselves and their friends and it has been wonderful to watch their confidence grow.
This week our Bumblebees, Caterpillars and Dragonflies have been busy finding out about their senses and talking about how they are used. They investigated different foods using sight, taste, smell and touch and listened to various sounds so we could share what they could hear.
The Early Years children were excited to go on an Autumn walk on Monday. They made an Autumn collection of leaves, conkers, pine cone and acorns. Following this they worked together as a class to create their own Autumn tree. Many of the children also chose to create their own during Busy Learning.
Last week we had our first Busy Learning afternoon. The children were all so excited to welcome their parents into their classrooms and had great fun creating their portraits for the hall display.
You can find the presentation slides with key information on Seesaw, along with the Project Overview for this term.
Thank you for your support, we all had a fantastic afternoon.
Our Super-Duper Heroes project across Key Stage 1 is well underway and today we had our Brilliant Beginning...superhero dress up day! It was great to see such a fantastic range of superhero costumes which included lots of real life superheroes too. We launched our day with a superhero parade where the school staff joined in too! What a Super-Duper day! Pow, boom and crash!!!
As you would have seen in our last newsletter, Simon Mole visited our Key Stage 1 children in September which has inspired so many of our children to have a go at being poets themselves. Simon also runs sessions outside of school which we are sure lots of our children would really enjoy! Please see the message below:
It was wonderful to see the year 1 & 2 children so inspired in their writing workshops with children’s poet Simon Mole. Very excitingly, there is a chance for our budding young writers to work with him again soon – this time from home.
Simon runs two live online workshops a month on zoom, which are suitable for children aged 6-12. They usually start with a few fun (and quite silly) warm up games to build confidence and skills, before Simon guides the group through a writing activity set out in a similar approach to the lessons they enjoyed so much with him at school.
You can sign up for a free taster session here: https://www.simonmole.com/participate
It was so fantastic to welcome so many of our Year 1 families to our Busy Learning Morning on Wednesday. It was a great opportunity for our families to take part in a Year 1 Busy Learning session with an array of activities both inside and outside. Supertato made many appearances and it was great to see so many lovely puppets and models of Supertato going home with our grown ups too!
Hopefully you have found a copy of the presentation shared with you on Seesaw which gives you a snap shot of our FPI curriculum as well as our Autumn Project Overview.
Thank you for your support and enthusiasm. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
Our Year 1 children have transformed into Crime Scene Investigators as Evil Pea has made his way into FPI! We found some very unhappy vegetables with Supertato trying hard to rescue his veggie friends! This has inspired us to take part in a range of activities supporting our understanding of the story Supertato.
As the signs of Autumn begin to show we have been exploring what that looks like in our Outdoor Learning area investigating the changes we can see. We also decided to celebrate National Poetry Day in our Outdoor Learning Area as the theme this year is the environment. We enjoyed sharing an array of Autumnal poems whilst drinking some dairy free hot chocolate!
We have begun our first project of the year, 'Super-Duper Heroes' by thinking about what a superhero might keep in their pocket! We then created our own list poems and used adjectives and expanded noun phrases (ENPs). We have also created our own comic strips by imagining our school is a superhero school where a problem needed to be solved.
This week we celebrated National Poetry Day by going outside to listen to a poem called, 'Nature Trail' by Benjamin Zephaniah. We took time to visualize and reflect on the different animals in the poem and green spaces in our local area, enjoying listening to the different sounds around us.
In Maths we have been reasoning about odd and even numbers and trying to follow and create rules about counting in different ways. We have been challenging ourselves to think about whether the given problem was 'always true, sometimes true or never true'.
We look forward to welcoming you to our Year 2 Busy Learning Morning on Tuesday 11th October starting at 9am, where you will find out more about the Year 2 curriculum and get a chance to see your child in their year 2 classroom.
Meet our new School Councillors!
After thinking carefully about the importance of having a School Council to help pupils share their opinions, ideas and wishes to make our school an even better place to learn, stay safe and have fun, we have elected our representatives for the new academic year. We can't wait to get stuck into making our school the best it can be!
The common frog is a regular visitor to our school pond, where they feast on the plentiful supply of slugs and snails. In winter, they hibernate in the pond mud or under log piles.
Did you know? A female frog may lay up to 4,000 eggs in one spring!
We've had a great week in Olive. We have practised using task trays and finished trays successfully. We all enjoyed Superhero day and loved dressing up.
In nurture we have been carrying on with our autumn display with some fabulous leaf paintings. For this we firstly went out into the courtyard to collect a variety of leaves before bringing them back to the nurture room to paint and then press them onto the paper.
We've also done an indoor scavenger hunt based around the 5 senses. This included finding something yellow, something that came from a plant, something soft, something that made a noise and so on. This was great fun and interesting to see the range of items that children chose to draw.
Congratulations to Isaac H who has completed daily maths challenges for 730 days in a row. That's 2 years! Well done, we are very proud of you! :)
Congratulations to Farrin for completing her Summer Reading Challenge! We are very proud of you!
The FPSA would like to thank all of the Early Year parents and carers who attended our tea party last Saturday afternoon at school. It was great to see so many there and a big thanks to all those who donated cakes for the event. Thank you to Stef from Role City (www.rolecity.co.uk) who provided the popular role play props.
