UK Graduate Immigration Route - Post Study Work VISA

(Posted on 16th April, 2021)

The Graduate Immigration Route (Post Study Work Visa) from the UK government will be launched on 1 July 2021. Through this new route, international students will be able to benefit from working or looking for work, at any skill level for two years upon graduation in the UK.

In order to be eligible, students must have Tier 4 or Student immigration permission at the time of application and they can only apply from inside the UK. Students can apply after they have successfully completed their course at Queen Mary – after the exam board has taken place within your Academic School.

Students would normally be expected to undertake their studies in the UK in order to be eligible for the Graduate Route; however, there are some concessions this year due to the pandemic.

More information on the Graduate Route is provided by Queen Mary’s Advice and Counselling Service within their advice blog, which can be accessed by clicking the link: https://qmulintadvice.wordpress.com/2021/03/05/graduate-route-confirmed-and-deadline-to-enter-the-uk-extended/

Bryant University Honors Program - Posted on 11th November, 2020

Despite the challenging times in which we find ourselves, Bryant’s Honors Program continues to attract students who have proven themselves to be exceptional - academically, personally, and professionally. The program places accelerated emphasis on scholarship, service, self-awareness, and success. Initiatives such as the Living and Learning Community and a global outreach requirement, “Moving the Needle on Community Service”, which asks students not only to engage in service, but to create solutions to local and global crises – have all been extremely successful and continue to showcase Bryant University as a frontrunner in quality education. The research published by our seniors are referenced by thousands of reputable academic institutions around the world, making Bryant’s Honors Program the regional epicenter of scholarly pursuit.

In addition to campus initiatives, curriculum initiatives like the study abroad partnerships with renowned universities in Ireland, Germany, Scotland, and England, highlight our commitment to intercultural engagement. Students have the opportunity to participate in both study abroad as well as Honors SIE to gain deeper understanding of global issues, cultural and historical perspectives, and innovative contributions made by other global scholars. International learning, mentorship, a stronger emphasis on research and writing, institutional support, and physical spaces for intellectual discourse are all prioritized as Honors students prepare for their Senior thesis projects.

The Department of Computer Science at Lakehead University has been recognized as one of the top Computer Science programs in Canada in the Maclean's 2021 post-secondary evaluation rankings. Notably, in this ranking Lakehead University is the only small, undergraduate-focused institution on the list amidst many larger schools.

We are proud of this achievement and of our graduates, who have a 100% employment rate and are currently some of the highest paid university graduates in Ontario,” said Dr. Vijay Mago, Chair of Computer Science. “Our intention is to continue to align high impact, industry relevant research with the learning outcomes and course content in our undergraduate program so that graduates have the skills to thrive in today’s technology career paths,” Dr. Mago added.

Lakehead's courses are updated regularly with cutting edge, relevant and high demand content including pattern recognition, big data analytics, image processing, natural language processing, deep learning, machine learning, neural networks, cyber security and optimization algorithms. Lakehead's graduate students have had success in receiving research funding from bodies such as NSERC, SSHRC, MITACS, ONCAT, the Canadian Revenue Agency and the university also collaborates both domestically and internationally with industry partners.

For those interested in obtaining a college diploma and a university degree, the HBSc Computer Science is offered in partnership with Georgian College as a dual diploma/degree that can be completed in four years of full-time study. It’s the best of both worlds - students find all of the studios, specialized facilities, professional networks, and the community of committed artists of an art school. And all of the curricular offerings, support for travel and research, student organizations, and diversity of interests and opportunities of a tier one research university.

  • As one of three undergraduate schools within Tufts University, the SMFA allows students to study across schools (either to fulfill degree requirements, minor, or earn a second degree), collaborate with peers and faculty throughout the University, and build a unique curriculum across disciplines to meet their needs. Students can explore animation, digital media, printmaking, painting, drawing, graphic arts, ceramics, film, metals, performance, photography, illustration, and much, much more.

  • There are no rigid studio requirements; instead, students are supported by faculty and staff advisors to create a curriculum customized to their interests and goals. Students at the SMFA can dive as deeply as they like into a single medium or explore a range of disciplines in service of ambitious projects and individualized goals. This rigorous but flexible course of study fosters technical skills and critical thinking in preparation for a range of creative industry careers.

  • Our partnership with the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston gives students access to the second largest art collection in North America, opportunities for work-study positions within the Museum, internships that include working in conservation and restoration, chances to connect with contemporary curators for studio visits, and multiple exhibition opportunities that are only open to current SMFA students and alumni.

Intrigued? Explore our SMFA viewbook.

There are two ways to apply to the undergraduate program at the SMFA at Tufts:

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts - an immersive 4-year studio art program supported by the rich academic resources of the entire university. The BFA program is a good match for students who are focused on building a strong set of skills in the studio, without the confines of a traditional major (or single medium) - it is a truly customized art school experience. BFA students can pursue a minor at the School of Arts & Sciences.

  • 5-Year Combined Degree Program - an integrated experience in which students split their time over five years between the studio and the pursuit of a second degree (BA or BS) in an area of their choice at the School of Arts & Sciences.

All first-year applicants apply through either the Common Application, Coalition Application, or QuestBridge application, and submit an art portfolio consisting of 15-20 images of recent work and/or up to 10 minutes of time-based work. While not required, the SMFA encourages prospective students to participate in a portfolio review before applying.

Tufts University proudly meets 100% of the demonstrated financial need of all admitted students, regardless of citizenship.

Sincerely,

JT Duck

Columbia University Undergraduate Admissions - 2021 - Posted on 23rd October, 2020

Top 3 UBC application tips!

Please review our 2020-2021 staff directory and regional assignments, which also includes admissions statistics for our Class of 2024. Additionally, below are important aspects of our process that we want to highlight:

  • Due to widespread disruptions in access to standardized testing, Columbia will be test-optional for the 2020-2021 application cycle. We continue to require English Language Proficiency scores for students who do not fulfill the requirement through other means, and will accept the online versions of the TOEFL, IELTS, and the Duolingo English Test.

  • We understand that curricular examinations, including A-levels, International Baccalaureate and national exams, may be impacted by the ongoing pandemic. We will continue to be flexible as we evaluate all academic transcripts and documents that we receive.

  • We have expanded the criteria for how students may receive application fee waivers. Students can determine if they qualify by using our new fee waiver eligibility form.

  • We can extend application deadline flexibility to students who are experiencing challenges meeting our deadlines. We will also accept supporting documentation from counselors and teachers after the application deadline without the need to request an extension.

  • We encourage students to participate in our live virtual programming to get an introduction to Columbia and determine if our community could be a good fit for them. We are offering an "International at Columbia" panel on October 26 that may be of particular interest to your students.

Columbia remains wholly committed to our international student population, and we look forward to working with the international counseling community to ensure students are supported through the application process and beyond. Please don't hesitate to reach out to your regional officer if we can be of any assistance in your work.

Best Wishes,

University of Michigan - Undergraduate Admissions 2021 - Posted on 21st October, 2020

With our Early Action deadline of Nov. 15 quickly approaching, we know that many of your students are busy putting the final touches on their applications.

Students who apply by the Early Action deadline will receive an admissions decision by late January 2021.

The School of Music, Theatre & Dance (SMTD) and Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning do not participate in Early Action. SMTD has a unique Dec. 1 application deadline, while Taubman only accepts applications for the Feb. 1 Regular Decision deadline.

When completing the application, students should also remember to submit the University of Michigan Questions and either the application fee or a fee waiver request. We will not evaluate a student's application until all documentation is submitted.

The additional required documentation includes the following:

  • High school transcript

  • School Report (Common App) or Counselor Recommendation (Coalition App)

  • One teacher evaluation (academic teacher) or someone (not related) who can speak directly to the student's academic aptitude, potential, and performance in the classroom

  • SAT or ACT test scores if they have them, or scores from the PreACT, PSAT, AP, or others if available* (ACT code 2062; SAT code 1839)

  • TOEFL, MET, or IELTS scores (for non-native speakers of English)

  • Official college transcripts (for high school students dual enrolled in a college or university)

*If students have not taken the SAT or ACT or are unable to, or do not have other scores to submit, they should use the COVID-19 question on the application to explain. They can self-report their test results on their application OR have them submitted electronically directly from the testing agency.

Finally, students should also get started on the financial aid process by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the CSS Profile, both available as of Oct. 1.

If students apply for financial aid by our suggested filing date of Dec. 15, and are admitted Early Action, they will receive a preliminary financial aid package within a week of their admission.

We encourage your students to apply for financial aid even before they are accepted.

Thank you so much for your partnership.

Go Blue!

North Carolina State University - Undergraduate Admissions - Posted on 20th October, 2020

We want to make sure that students are aware of the opportunities offered at NC State University, a leading research university in the U.S with a focus in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The university’s location in Raleigh, North Carolina, a thriving coastal state on the United States eastern seaboard, is ranked one of the best places in the nation to live and work. Raleigh anchors the Research Triangle, a national hotspot for high-tech enterprise.

A powerhouse in science, technology, engineering and math, we also lead in agriculture, education, textiles, business and natural resources. Over 36,000 students call NC State home each year including around 3,800 students from about 120 countries outside the United States. This fall, we are excited to welcome 4,663 of the brightest students to our campus.

NC State’s Response to COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has provided an opportunity for our students and faculty to develop new products to meet the needs of healthcare workers and our community.

Current engineering graduate students have been 3D printing face shields on campus for local hospitals and healthcare organizations. A spirits company, founded by NC State alumni and faculty, have allocated half of their production line to making hand sanitizer to help those in the front lines. The Nonwovens Institute, located on NC State's Centennial Campus, is producing specially designed fabrics to be delivered to manufacturers across the country to assemble facemasks.

NC State’s efforts to limit the campus population by moving all undergraduate courses online and reducing campus housing have been successful in slowing the spread of COVID-19.

NC State leadership is working with faculty, staff, students, the UNC System, and county and state health officials to continue planning for the spring. You can visit our Protect the Pack website for updates on how NC State is handling COVID-19.

We are committed to supporting you and your students, and if there is any additional assistance our office can provide please reach out. We hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and welcome you to take a look at how we Think and Do at NC State.

Bryant University's Commitment to Test Optional - Posted on 16th October, 2020

Brynat University's test-optional policy: if a student feels that their SAT or ACT scores isn't an accurate reflection of their abilities, or they have been impacted by the disruption of test administrations for the SAT and the ACT, they can choose not to submit them. Instead, they will answer a short essay question.

How do we evaluate the answer to the essay question? The committee seeks clear, concise, and focused writing that demonstrates thoughtful reflection. The question provides the opportunity to tell the story they wish their test scores could tell. They will be able to share their perspective on their academic strengths, personal and professional development, and the impact they believe they can make in the Bryant community as they grow into a successful leader.

Applying test-optional is a personal and individual decision—so it should be considered carefully. If a student's circumstance changes after they've submitted the application, we ask that they notify The Office of Admission prior to the release of their decision. To view the average test scores and other facts about current Bryant students, read our Admitted Class Profile.

For more information on our upcoming application deadlines, visit our webpage or contact the Office of Admission at 1-800-622-7001 or admission@bryant.edu.

Sincerely,

Michelle L. Cloutier

Vice President for Enrollment Management

Worchester Polytechnic Institute eliminates Undergraduate Application Fee - Posted on 13th October, 2020

Worcester Polytechnic Institute has long been a leader in efforts to make the college application process more holistic and equitable for all students. These efforts began with the decision to go test-optional in 2007, when WPI became one of the first top STEM institutions in the nation to not require student SAT/ACT scores in a student's application.

Today, we're pleased to announce that, effective immediately, WPI has continued those efforts by eliminating the $70 application fee for undergraduate applications. According to multiple reports, the average student applies to anywhere from seven to ten colleges, the application fees of which can quickly add up. We hope that this decision further assures that every student interested in applying to WPI has the opportunity to do so without concerns around financial uncertainty.

We hope you'll share this exciting news with your students applying to WPI, as well as those who have yet to begin their college search, but show interest in continuing their education in the STEM fields. Please don't hesitate to get in touch with WPI's Office of Admissions through email or phone at 508-831-5286 with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

First and foremost, our Regular Decision deadline has changed to January 5, 2021. The Early Decision II deadline will remain January 1, 2021. We hope this will provide a small reprieve during the holiday season as you help your students prepare their applications.

  • Self-Reported Grades on the Common App

We are now asking students who have access to their unofficial high school transcripts to self-report grades from 9th through 11th grades. This is in addition to the requirement for official transcripts to be sent by counselors.

  • Test Optional and How it Works in our Review Process

Students who select that they are applying as test optional candidates will not be asked to submit testing and will be reviewed without. These students are given full consideration for admission.

Students who select that they will submit testing but are unable to sit for the exam or students who select they would like to be test optional but decide to submit testing should update their application through their NYU Application Portal.

Students in international curricula that lead to an exam (like the IB, French Bac, etc.) should send predictions if their schools normally release them. They will be reviewed in the context of a student's high school work.

  • Applying to Alternate Programs

Students applying to New York are now able to select up to 10 alternate majors to which they would like to be considered for admission. This does not include artistic majors that require a portfolio. The vast majority of students admitted to NYU will be admitted to their primary choice, not an alternate choice.

  • New Majors and Programs at NYU

This year, we've launched several new majors. German/Linguistics and Computer and Data Science at the College of Arts and Science, Business, Technology, and Entrepreneurship at NYU Stern, Global Public Health/Communicative Sciences and Disorders at NYU Steinhardt, and Bioengineering at NYU Abu Dhabi.

Fordham University - Fall Visit Options for International Students - Posted on 9th Oct, 2020

Fordham will be hosting a number of virtual events over the next month. As your admission representative, I am inviting you and any interested students to attend these Fordham-specific events.

There are a few different options that are available on a daily basis. More specifically, I wanted to highlight events* where I will be present to answer any questions you or your students may have in a live setting.

*Events are listed in New York City time. Please check your time zone.

Virtual Hello: This is a session with just me, and an opportunity to get a quick introduction to Fordham, or get a reminder of the key highlights. This event only lasts 30 minutes, with me on camera, and is capped at 30 guests. This is a great opportunity to ask specific questions.

Monday, 19 October - 6:30PM EDT

Monday, 16 November - 9:30AM EST

Virtual Information Session w/ Q&A: This session is more detailed and lasts an hour. The advantage here is that I am assisted by one other admission representative and two current Fordham students—more voices, more perspectives. This also covers the application process in detail.

Tuesday, 6 October - 7:00AM EDT

Thursday, 15 October - 8:00PM EDT

Tuesday, 20 October - 7:00AM EDT

Monday, 26 October - 4:00PM EDT

International Student Ram Session: This one-hour session will be co-hosted with other members of the International Admission team at Fordham, and we will cover specific concerns that your students may have when considering studying in the US and at Fordham. Current international students at Fordham will be present and answering questions.

Thursday, 1 October - 7:00AM EDT

Virtual Open House - Designed for high school seniors, Fordham's Virtual Open House weekend is our most comprehensive event of the fall, providing the most content and the most ways to engage live with Fordham students, faculty, and staff.

Saturday, 17 October - 11:00AM - 4:00PM EDT (Lincoln Center Campus)

Sunday, 18 October - 11:00AM - 4:00PM EDT (Rose Hill Campus)

Other joint events in which I will represent Fordham:

Beyond Academics: The College Essay, Interviews, Portfolios, Communications, and more!

Wednesday, 14 October, 8:00AM EDT: This event will be hosted by Franklin and Marshall College in partnership with the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Urban Jesuit Universities: Creating a Winning Application!

Wednesday, 14 October, 8:00PM EDT: This event will be hosted by Loyola University Chicago in partnership with Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. University of Minnesota - International Student and Scholar Services - Posted on 9th Oct, 2020

As we embark on this most unusual academic year, we are grateful for your support of students who still dream of studying in the United States even though circumstances have made it exceedingly difficult.

In our last newsletter, we shared our grief and sadness over the death of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis Police Department. As an institution, we have spent much time over the past months reflecting on our calls to action in diversity, equity, and inclusion. The University of Minnesota is committed to advancing this work, with three key priorities:

  • Increasing representational diversity

  • Auditing and improving campus climate

  • Building and aligning key community partnerships

We are driven to create just and sustainable social change in our local and global community. One of the concrete steps we've taken is to create the new Gopher Equity Project, a diversity, equity, and inclusion initiative for undergraduate students.

Through all of this upheaval, and especially in the COVID-19 era, we continue to have our students’ best interests at heart. Even though the University of Minnesota is a large university, we never want our students to feel like they are just a number. We are intentional about creating community. For example, International Student & Scholar Services provides bi-weekly check-ins with students who identify as Black, Muslim, or Latinx. Our dedicated staff coordinates the International Buddy Program and Cross Cultural Discussion Groups, while also being available to international students for individual advising.

As things move forward on our campus, we want to share the following updates with you:

We are also pleased to debut this short video (on YouTube) that highlights what makes UMN a unique option for your students. Our admissions and recruitment team is ready to talk with you, your students, and their parents. We will do our best to address your concerns and respond to any new developments as quickly as possible.

Brown University - 2021 Admission Cycle - Posted on 9th Oct, 2020

In a normal fall season, the Brown Admission staff would be traveling across the country and around the world. As many colleges and universities, including Brown, begin work on an entirely virtual visit season, and as school districts grapple with how to reopen safely, we are acutely aware that this is not a normal year. COVID-19 continues to impact our lives in many ways, and we continue to fight the coronavirus alongside devastating natural disasters and the daunting injustices of systemic racism. In a year and a world in which so much has happened, we have all had to adapt to a challenging set of new realities. Every year, I believe it is important to acknowledge and applaud your efforts on behalf of your students. This year in particular, we are sensitive to how quickly and creatively you found ways to work within the constraints of virtual learning - all the while counseling parents and students whose anxiety about the college admission process has only been amplified. We want to say thank you for the guidance, perspective and inspiration you provide to your students every day, and to partner with you throughout this process.

Web Resources for the 2020-21 Admission Cycle

Need Blind and No-Loan Financial Aid Commitment

For your students who may be considering Brown, I want to assure you that our commitment to access and opportunity for all students, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances, remains steadfast. Financial support for our students remains one of our highest priorities. We continue to provide a world-class educational experience in a community of scholars from a vast array of perspectives. We actively seek students from a broad range of socioeconomic, geographic and ideological backgrounds. Brown meets 100 percent of demonstrated financial need. Through The Brown Promise initiative, we have eliminated packaged loans from all undergraduate financial aid awards. Our generous financial aid ensures that financial considerations do not prevent talented students from choosing Brown.

Impact of Gap Years on the Class of 2025

We know that there has been concern over whether increased gap year requests from the Class of 2024 due to the pandemic will impact college admission prospects for the Class of 2025. Though we did grant approximately 40 gap year requests beyond our historic mean, we plan to expand the size of the Class of 2025 accordingly. Students should know that the overall probability of admission has not changed despite how different the admission process may look this year.

Extenuating Circumstances and Extensions

We offer our sincere sympathy and support to those impacted by natural disasters or other community tragedies, which have become all too frequent this year. Application deadline extensions are available for those students who have been impacted by extenuating circumstances, and students will not be disadvantaged in the admission process for delays caused by events beyond their control. Please know that same flexibility and support extends to you, as well as teachers and other school officials who may be submitting letters of recommendation or other application materials on behalf of students applying to Brown. For any questions regarding extenuating circumstances, fee waivers or extensions, please reach out to us directly at admission@brown.edu or 401-863-2378.

Brown remains deeply grateful to you for your continuing wisdom and counsel, and we look forward to working with you in what are sure to be unusual times ahead. Please accept my best wishes for a healthy, safe and successful year.

Boston University - Updates 2020-21 - Posted on 9th Oct, 2020

Boston University has resumed on-campus learning and research activities, including an in-house testing and tracing program. We are testing daily and following social-distancing protocols rigorously. The rate of positive results is 0.1%, which is lower than the average rate for Massachusetts. The goal is to make sure that the community members feel comfortable and safe as they return to campus and resume daily activities.

This is an exceptionally challenging time for high school seniors, for whom the college search and application process has been disrupted. We are working diligently to be transparent and clear in our messaging to all students who would like to apply for admission to the BU Class of 2025. Below please find three key messages that I hope will help you as you advise your students this year:

  1. BU is test optional for fall 2021 and spring 2022 applicants. This includes consideration for all our merit scholarships, including the Trustee and Presidential Scholarships. And because BU has been test flexible for overseas IB Diploma students for the past two years, we are well prepared to evaluate applications in a test optional environment.

  2. BU has added the Duolingo English Test (DET) as an additional way for students to demonstrate their proficiency in English. BU will continue to accept both TOEFL and IELTS results, and we hope that the addition of the DET will provide optimum flexibility for those students who are required to take an English language proficiency test.

  3. Even though BU has received an increase in the number of deferral requests due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most deferral requests were for January 2021. Therefore, this will not have a negative impact on the competition for admission for students applying to BU for fall 2021.

We understand that there is a lot of confusion around how colleges will manage the test optional process, and this has made it extraordinarily difficult for students to make decisions around testing. I want to emphasize that under no circumstances should students put their health and safety at risk in order to apply to BU. I can say with complete confidence that a student who applies to BU test optionally will not be at a disadvantage in our admissions process.

To provide students with a new way to experience BU this fall, we are offering a wide range of virtual programs that will help them connect with current students, faculty, and other members of the BU community. We encourage you to explore programming options available for students on our website. Please check back regularly as we will continue to add new programs.

Please feel free to contact my office at 617-353-4492 or intadmis@bu.edu if you have any questions, or visit our website to find contact information for your regional representative. We look forward to working with you in the coming year.

A Message from Pratt Institute - Posted on 14th Sep, 2020

Top Ranked Art, Design, Architecture College. We are reaching out to many of you now, scheduling virtual visits, and we look forward to meeting with your students interested in art, design and architecture. If you haven't heard from us yet, please reach out and set up a virtual visit for your art students by emailing admissions@pratt.edu. Students interested in Pratt are also welcome to request our free new full-color viewbook at pratt.edu/request. It's filled with images of student work, program descriptions, and more.

Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, is ranked by Business Week as one of the top design schools in the United States and offers majors in virtually every area of art, design, and architecture. With almost all programs ranked among the top five or ten in the country, Pratt attracts the brightest and most talented students in the US. Over 1000 faculty members, most of them practicing professionals, connect students with internships and eventually jobs. According to our recent employment survey, 97% of undergraduate students were employed within one year of graduation. Payscale, 2014, listed Pratt graduates with the second highest mean starting salaries of all the universities offering art and design.

NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS

Pratt is test-optional this year as a result of COVID-19. Students whose first language is English will not be required to submit test scores. Details are at pratt.edu/apply. Merit scholarships will be based on GPA and portfolio.

New Spring Term Start: for students who graduate by January, we are offering a spring term start for first-year students. The application deadline is Oct 1 for spring. Details are at pratt.edu/apply.

TOP-RANKED MAJORS

Pratt offers majors in fine art, fashion design, communications design, interior and industrial design, animation, motion arts, interactive arts, history of art and design, art and design education (teacher preparation), writing, critical and visual studies, and more. The School of Architecture offers the five- year NAAB accredited architecture degree and a four-year degree in construction management. We also offer an associate’s degree (transfer track) in painting/drawing and graphic design/illustration for students who are not ready or not interested in a four-year program. A variety of minors allows students to explore all their interests, while making them more employable upon graduation because of their breadth of experiences.

The difference between our Bachelor of Fine Art and a Bachelor of Arts is the fact that the studios and professional courses constitute about two-thirds of the BFA curriculum. Students apply for a particular program-- art, design, architecture, or writing--and begin studying in that program their first year. (The admissions requirements include evidence of talent in addition to academic ability.)

Check out some stats including our student profile below my signature.

IDEAL CAMPUS LOCATIONS

Brooklyn (main campus): A 25-acre campus with 35 buildings, some historic, some contemporary, grassy plazas, and residence halls on campus makes Pratt a top choice for students looking for a traditional college experience in the context of an art and design school. Pratt is the only art, design and architecture college in New York City with an actual traditional college campus. All programs but the two-year associate degree programs and both the two and four-year construction management programs are located on the Brooklyn campus.

Manhattan: Pratt's Manhattan campus is located in the exciting Chelsea area in a restored historic building.

Extension Campus: PrattMWP College of Art and Design is Pratt’s upstate New York extension campus in Utica. It offers the first two years of Pratt's BFA programs in fine arts, photography, art and design education (teacher preparation), and communications design (graphic design, illustration, advertising art direction). There are many reasons why students choose PrattMWP, including a substantially lower cost. Information is available at www.mwpai.edu

For students submitting an admissions application: The deadline for the fall semester is January 5th. November 1st is our non-binding early action deadline. Because we have an enrollment cap with strict limits on certain majors, we strongly encourage students to apply early if Pratt is their first choice.

Fall Newsletter: Updates for our 2020-2021 Cycle - Posted on 14th Sep, 2020

Like yours, our work is changing rapidly. We’ve all been forced to reimagine just about everything—we’d be lying if we said it’s been easy. And yet, despite these challenges, it’s been inspirational to watch RISD adapt and respond—to witness firsthand the thinking and action of artists and designers to problem-solve in a way that solidifies the very reason students choose to come to RISD in the first place.

We share this update with you today to outline some of these changes and share our hope that you, too, find inspiration in the dissonance. We’d like to begin with the announcement that following the retirement of the beloved Ed Newhall, Kristina Behan and Michael Cameron became co-directors. We are the authors of this update, fully committed to access and the arts, and we look forward to working with you.

Please continue reading to learn about our recruitment model, our new application requirements, events designed just for you, and more. We wish you the best for a successful and healthy year ahead.

Testing

Earlier this year we announced that we are permanently test-optional for all applicants. This was not a COVID-based decision. Rather, research tells us that portfolios and transcripts serve as the greatest predictor of a student’s success. We are thrilled with this change, and rest assured there will be no disadvantage to students who choose not to submit scores.

Recommendation

We will now require applicants to submit at least one letter of recommendation with their application. The Committee believes this additional information is helpful when assessing a student’s candidacy.

RISD Assignment

No, it’s still not the bike. We love it though, and recently hosted a webinar that unpacks how we developed the idea and advice about how students might approach their problem-solving process. Check out this year's assignment here..

Fee Waivers

We are committed to approving all fee waiver requests of applicants for whom this fee presents a financial burden. If a student encounters challenges applying with a fee waiver, simply have them email admissions@risd.edu with the request.

Travel + Events

RISD will not be traveling this fall. We are investing a significant amount of time in online programming that spans general information sessions, campus tours, studio visits, portfolio tips and much more. Please encourage your students to visit www.risd.edu/live to register for events as this is our primary delivery of information this fall. We have a dedicated list of events designed for College Counselors + Art Educators which you can register for here.

Territory Management

We will now use a territory management model for recruitment. Please meet our recruitment team:.

We have established a series of events to support prospective students of color, first-generation to college students, and low-income students. These events are intentionally designed for students who identify with these descriptors, but are not meant to imply exclusivity. You can review the list of events here. We encourage your students to opt in to receive invitations to other individualized events this fall by completing this form.

RISD will participate in several National Portfolio Day events, all of which are virtual. In full transparency, lines are likely to be extremely long as there are no restrictions for participation, nor will we have a sense of participation in advance of the event. We will do our best to accommodate your students. Please utilize aicad.slideroom.com where we will be reviewing submissions through January.

BC Admission Update: Fall 2020 - Posted on 10th Sep, 2020

View important University and undergraduate admission updates ahead of this year's application cycle.

Boston College Updates: Fall 2020

Few updates specific to Boston College:

Testing Updates for the 2020-21 Cycle

Boston College will be test-optional for first-year applicants during the 2020-21 admission cycle. While the ACT and SAT remain optional for all candidates, international applicants must continue to demonstrate English proficiency; students may now submit the Duolingo English Test as an alternative to TOEFL or IELTS test-center results. Learn more about our English proficiency policy here.

November 1 Priority Scholarship Deadline

For consideration for our full-tuition, merit based Gabelli Presidential Scholars Program, students must apply by the November 1 priority scholarship deadline. Both Early Decision and Regular Decision candidates are eligible for Presidential Scholarship consideration as long as they meet the November 1 deadline. Test-optional applicants will be equally considered for the program.

Information for Human-Centered Engineering Applicants

Boston College's Human-Centered Engineering Program (HCE) integrates Boston College’s signature liberal arts education with a rigorous engineering curriculum. This summer, we hosted three informational sessions with faculty to highlight features of the new major. An on-demand recording of this session can be found here.

The entering engineering cohort of Boston College’s Class of 2025 (current high school seniors) will include just 25 students. This will be increased to 50 in subsequent years. Because of the limited number of spaces in the entering cohort and our need to closely manage enrollment, we anticipate filling many of our seats during the Early Decision round. Therefore, Human-Centered Engineering applicants are strongly encouraged to apply as Early Decision candidates. Boston College remains need-blind and meets the full demonstrated financial need of all admitted students during both the ED and RD rounds.

Human-Centered Engineering is the only major at Boston College to which students are selected as an entering student. Applicants will have the option to submit their applications for the HCE major only, or to indicate a second choice major in the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences in case they are not admitted to the HCE major. Students who apply ED and indicate a second major will be expected to adhere to the binding nature of Early Decision, if admitted to BC.

Fall Virtual Programming

Boston College will remain closed to visitors through December 2020. This fall, students are invited to register for live Virtual Eagle Eye Information Sessions (including panels of current students), live Virtual Campus Tours, and one-on-one conversations with current students. Programs are held daily, Monday through Friday.

Beginning September 14, we will also launch Discover Boston College, a one-month virtual open house featuring nearly 30 sessions on admission and financial aid, academics, student life, and more. While this program is geared toward high school seniors and their families, we welcome all interested students and college counselors to register.

Closing

I hope this information is helpful to you in working with your students. If any of your applicants need assistance, please encourage them to contact us. You can meet our staff here.

I will send another email in December with an Early Decision update. Until then, best wishes for a safe and successful start to the school year.

Sincerely,

Lauren Lipyanka

Our plan to “Defend the Den” was featured in the Inquirer! - Posted on 10th Sep, 2020

Greetings from Ursinus!

We are excited to have been featured in this past Sunday’s edition of The Philadelphia Inquirer! The article covered Ursinus and the extensive testing program we have put in place to promote the health of our campus community. While the article takes a close look at our testing operation, it also presents an inspiring look at how our faculty, staff and students are so dedicated to one another's safety and well-being.

As the article states, Ursinus "for years has thrived on close faculty-student interaction and classroom community-building," and I am incredibly thankful that these qualities reflect the very best of Ursinus even when circumstances are so unpredictable.

I wish you success as you kick off another academic year; if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact our office at (610) 409-3200.

UCAT 2020 - Final reminder to book - Posted on 2nd Sep, 2020

Most UK universities require applicants to sit an admissions test in addition to their other entry requirements. The UCAT is required by the majority of UK universities and must be sat in the summer of 2020 by students who want to apply to member universities for entry in 2021.

This year there are some key changes to our 2020 test cycle, most importantly that candidates will have the choice to sit the test at a Pearson VUE Test Centre or at home.

Applying to Hopkins: 5 things your students need to know - Posted on 31st Aug, 2020

Here are 5 quick things to know as you help your students apply

Here are 5 quick things to know as you help your students apply to Johns Hopkins University

In case you missed our updates throughout the summer, we want to share the five most important things to keep in mind as you guide your student through the application process to Hopkins.

1. Introducing Early Decision II

Hopkins has added an Early Decision II application option to our admissions process. Much like Early Decision I, Early Decision II is a binding agreement that offers students an additional opportunity to indicate Hopkins as their top choice. Students can apply to Hopkins through the Coalition for College application and the Common Application.

2. Update to Supplemental Essay

Our new essay prompt provides a space for students to share more about their personal context, unique experiences, and perspectives.

3. Test-Optional Policy for Class of 2025

Due to a decrease in test availability, Hopkins is adopting a test-optional policy for students applying for entry in the fall of 2021. For more information regarding our test-optional policy, visit standardized test information on our website.

4. Regional Admissions Officer Contact Information

We encourage you and your students to reach out if you have any questions during this upcoming year. You can find the specific admissions officer for your region on our meet the staff page.

5. Virtual College Planning Resources

We have created a College Planning Toolkit that prospective students and families—as well as our partners across the high school counseling community—can reference as they navigate the college admissions process in the upcoming year.

With all that is new, we are also here for you! If you have any questions about the admissions process or Hopkins in general, please feel free to join our admissions officers for an open Q&A on Tuesday, September 15:

Warm regards,

Johns Hopkins University

Envisioning the Future: Updates from UChicago! - Posted on 31st Aug, 2020

What will the future bring? It’s a question that has entertained curious and creative minds since time immemorial. People in the past had some wild ideas about what the world of today would look like: some envisioned that the future would bring flying cars, or underwater homes, or computer devices that could allow you to shop, work, socialize, and attend school from home (as if THAT will ever happen)! Whether or not those predictions come true to the letter, the most important thing about these past visions is that they looked forward and envisioned a better world. The future is forged by those who look toward it.

At UChicago, looking toward the future is the root of our core mission: to grow human knowledge and enrich human life. Our focus on the future helped us calculate the speed of light, split the atom, formalize the fields of ecology and sociology, and contributed to countless other breakthroughs on campus. That mission continues to drive the work we do today. Just this week, the U.S. Department of Energy announced that two of the five National Quantum Information Science Research Centers will be operated by the University of Chicago, continuing the research pioneered by the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering. And Michael Kremer, who won the Nobel Prize for Economics in 2019, will join UChicago September 1 as a University Professor to continue his work envisioning a better future by experimenting with new ways to end global poverty.

Envisioning a better future is the first step toward creating one! As you imagine your own future, please check out details throughout the update that may inspire your thoughts and help you get started creating it!

  • A New Nobel: Michael Kremer, the Nobel laureate who used field experiments to revolutionize the way economists evaluate economic development, will join the University of Chicago as a University Professor, leading a new Development Innovation Lab at the Becker Friedman Institute for Economics. Read more about him and his accomplishments here!

  • Quantum Research: The U.S. Department of Energy announced last week that Argonne and Fermilab, operated by the University of Chicago, have been selected as new National Quantum Information Science Research Centers. Hear thoughts from Department of Energy leadership on working with the University of Chicago here!

  • Snap To It: Sofia Gross, AB’15, was recently named to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list in recognition of her role in helping 425,000 users register to vote at Snap, the parent company of Snapchat and Bitmoji. Read more about how UChicago helped to nurture her interest in politics here!

  • Making Gridiron History: Jason Wright, an alumnus of UChicago’s Booth School of Business, was recently named the new president of the NFL’s Washington Football Team! Wright will be both the youngest president in the league and the first Black team president in NFL history.

  • Virtual College Fairs: Virtual college fairs are a great way to learn about different schools and discover what you’re looking for in a college home! The Coalition for College is hosting virtual college fairs throughout the fall. Representatives from a wide variety of colleges and universities will be available to answer any questions you have!

  • UChicago Virtual Visits: We know that some people have expressed interest in visiting our campus—and that’s great! For the safety of our students and staff, we are continuing to offer virtual visits online (luckily, you won’t have to worry about bringing an umbrella on a virtual tour). Visit our website to learn more!

What Is the Future of Live Theater?

Broadway went dark on March 12, 2020, followed by an announcement in June that it will remain closed for the remainder of this year. And the closure has led many to think about where the industry will go from here.

“Broadway is starting to think more imaginatively. We’ve had a complete change from a political and social standpoint. New ideas are now in the forefront around race and equality, and I wonder how that will shape what producers want to do,” said Assistant Professor, Beth Wynstra. Read the full story here.

This week we would like to highlight @diningatbabson, give them a follow to learn more about all things dining at Babson. The age old question, are you a Dunkin’ or Starbucks drinker?
