How To Incorporate the Benchmark Literacy Curriculum into Schoology
Spring 2020 Benchmark Education created the first few distance learning slides in Google Drive before finding a better solution of creating the rest in Benchmark Universe for more seamless assignments as Covid progressed.
Units 1-3 distance learning slides are in the above Google Slides folder.
Beginning in Unit 4, these are accessed in Benchmark Universe by toggling on the side of the library to "Distance Learning".
These lessons give the students a task to do each day. Two days a week in 2nd grade and up, the task/questions are over a small group text ebook that would need to be assigned to students. They can choose to have it read to them if needed.
For grades K-1, teachers will need to delete the leveled texts slides since we don't have those for AR. You can simply delete the slides or insert your own instead.
Grades 2nd and up can read the texts independently and complete the questions on the "Reflect and Respond" sections in their notebook. This option is still helpful for them to have the eBook consumable version as well if they need it read to them for support. These are the same questions that are used in the distance learning slides.
(Note: Keep in mind these are meant to be paired with instruction and the gradual release module so students will struggle if they haven't had any of the strategy lessons for that unit. Also, the text will not be familiar to them from the read-aloud/mini-lessons but if these questions weren't assigned in a prior week's instruction they could go back and complete these for a familiar text for practice. Just an idea!)
There is also a Home School Connection "Take Home Activity Calendar" page on the very back of their Reader's Workshop student mentor text consumable. Teachers could assign activities from that as well. For K-1, the Take Home Activity Calendar can be found in the back of the Phonics consumable.
