Course Description:

This course is designed to develop the skills needed to be successful in an Algebra course. It will cover fractions, decimals, percents and how they relate to each other. It will also include the study of integers, absolute value, number line graphs, exponents, radicals, rations, variable expressions, and introduce linear equations and inequalities. 

Materials: 

• Pencil

• Chromebook – Bring it fully charged everyday

• Chromebook Charger 

• Two pocket folder

• Calculator- Optional

Classroom Expectations

• Come to class on time and prepared. 

• Be respectful towards teachers, classmates, and yourself

• Work the entire class period

• Ask for help when you need it!

• Complete classwork

  • I expect all work to be completed by every student. The assignments are very important because they directly prepare students for the test. If a student does not complete their assignments, they will not be successful on their DCA. 

I have an open door policy.  If you have a question, please seek help.  That is why I am here.  I believe that 100% of the students in my class can be successful, and it is my goal to help each student to achieve at their highest level.  

Individual Technology Devices

Missouri Senate Bill 68 prohibits the use of cell phones, wireless earbuds, and gaming devices during the school day. Cell phones are only allowed in the student’s backpack. Students who violate this expectation will receive consequences.

Technology (Chromebooks)

Fort Osage practices a one-to-one instructional style.  Each student will receive a Google Chromebook used to facilitate instruction.  I will closely follow Fort Osage’s technology policy regarding these devices. 

Make Up Work Policy:

If a student is absent, they are responsible for getting any work that was assigned while they were gone. Assignments may be turned in up until the DCA (End of Unit Test). Assignments turned in after a DCA may be accepted on a case by case basis.

Extenuating circumstances involving extended illness, injury, etc. will be reviewed on an individual basis at the discretion of the student’s principal, guidance counselors, and myself per the homework request policy.

Google Classroom

Throughout the course of the year, classwork may be assigned through google classroom. It is important that you are logged in and familiar with how to turn in work and check for feedback in google classroom. 

Grading: *points are estimates and may vary from unit to unit. 

Reinforcement Activities…………………50 points

These will consist of various drill and practice items whereby the students will work toward independent practice and progress toward mastery. These activities will include but are not limited to worksheets, group activities, etc.

Formative Assessments………..75-100 points

These will consist of quizzes designed to measure whether or not and to what extent the student has mastered an objective. Performance on these quizzes should guide students in their decision making about whether or not they need additional tutorial work.

Summative Assessments ( DCA’s )……....100+ points

These will consist of end of unit exams. This test will assess the student’s ability to use the knowledge gained in the unit to produce a correct answer and process for a number of questions. The test will be graded on both accuracy and on the student showing all their work. Students may reassess if they would like to improve their score. They will be required to complete assignments in order to show growth since the original assessment.

B 80-89

C 70-79
