Learning Lab Syllabus
Welcome to Learning Lab! I believe it is best to begin this school year with a clear understanding of your expectations in class while in Learning Lab. Throughout this year, your job is to learn skills that will prepare you for everyday life beyond high school, focus on your IEP goals, and provide additional help in understanding concepts from your other classes.
Grades Based On:
1. Daily classwork; projects based on IEP goals (Guided Learning)
2. Appropriate Use of Technology, Time, & Making Progress (Guided Learning)
3. On-task behavior & not distracting self or others
4. Weekly grade checks (Assessment of Learning)
The students will receive a grade that will be known as “Daily Progress” and it will be recorded at the end of every week in class. The breakdown for points earned is as follows:
Daily Work, Use of Time/Technology and Making Progress:
Students will earn points by bringing assignments from their classes to Learning Lab and working on those assignments during class. If they have no failing classes or missing assignments (students can check Infinite Campus), they can work on assignments specifically tailored to meet their educational needs from their IEP goals. If all work is caught up, and all classes are A’s, B’s, C’s, and D’s they can choose to go to the library for a book, read, write or draw.
Students will also be expected to complete assignments that are designed to help support current classroom achievement and explore the development of future goals. All assignments will have a due date and will be assigned points; these points are in addition to the daily points.
Students may listen to music on their Chromebooks through headphones or earbuds, as long as they are working and making progress on their assignments. Playing games, watching videos, or being on social media on their electronic devices is not a choice. Inappropriate use of technology that violates the FOSD AUP agreement will result in the loss of the use of the Chromebook.
The goal of Learning Lab is to provide assistance, at school, for the students to be able to complete all of their assignments in a timely manner and with a passing grade. It is NOT to sleep, watch videos, be on social media, play online games or disrupt the other students who are trying to complete their work.
