You will engage your best efforts toward communicating creatively, researching rigorously, practicing punctiliously, and performing precisely.
Attendance
You are expected to be in attendance daily.
If you are absent, it is YOUR responsibility to retrieve the work from either Google classroom, a peer, or Phelps.
You are expected to participate in class activities daily - whether virtual or in person.
During lecture, discussion, speeches, and in-class activities, cell phones and personal electronic devices should be on silent and put away.
There may be times in which electronics are encouraged or used in class. Please wait for an announcement. Otherwise, they should be put away.
I reserve the right to take your phone during class if it is a distraction and provide it back at the end of the hour.
Assignment Expectations
Work assigned for a grade is to be completed and turned in on time.
Late work policy
Late-work, especially speech performances, is not accepted..
This is a college-level course. Due dates are due dates, just as in college.
Do your best to turn in work completed and on time.
However, if work is late due to absence (or other excused reason), it may be turned in ONE day (after original due date - or your return) for full credit.
This means you will need to stay on top of work in Classroom and in touch with Phelps or your peers to know what must be accomplished while you are out of class.
Re-take Policy
Re-takes of speech performances and assessments will be provided based upon student request within ONE week after scoring.
Student must make arrangements for re-take outside of class time.
Communication
You will use your student email regularly, so get in the habit of checking it at least daily.
Make use of the Classroom and Team calendars for important dates.
You will use Remind for team announcements and communication.
I update grades usually within days of a daily assignment or in-class work. Speeches take approximately one week to be graded and entered into the grade book.
I will do my best to explain, inform, and develop understanding of the ideas and activities we will pursue. Please ask questions if something does not make sense. I am happy to explain & I'm sure someone else has the same question.
Parent and student contact will be sent as needed.
Watch the video and here are a few things to remember:
Students must complete ONE online application per semester, and “submit” the form in order for the online application to proceed to the next steps. Students should receive two emails from UMKC:
Email #1 will arrive within minutes to the same student email address used in the online application. This email will contain an application reference number.
Email #2 will arrive within 48 hours to the same student email address used in the online application. This email will contain parent & payment information along with the UMKC student ID number.
Email #3 will arrive within 48 hours to the same student email address used in the online application. This email will contain your UMKC email access/Canvas/Pathway information. Students should keep both of these emails for future reference, should they need to contact the HSCP office.
Students who do not complete pre-payments or submit the Student Financial Responsibility form (SFR) will not be enrolled.
If students have incomplete online applications, or have not determined the method of payment, and cleared any holds (financial, property, etc.) prior to September 14, 2020, will not be enrolled in any course.
Students who complete applications for Tuition Assistance will receive an email prior to September 14, 2020.
*Don’t forget tuition assistance is NOT guaranteed, as there are limited funds available from the University.
As your Teacher I have to have the counseling department verify your GPA/ACT score so if you enroll or plan to enroll in a dual credit class I need to know BY September 18th so I can give UMKC the appropriate information in time. You can do this in person or through an email.
Please take the time to read through the UMKC Financial Responsibility document. You are treated like a college student through UMKC so your teachers and school have no control or are in communication with UMKC about financial situations. This responsibility is on you and your parents.
I will be adding content throughout the school year, as I gather more resources.
