A+ participants’ are expected to attend school regularly. The State requires that participants graduate with at least a 95% attendance record overall for their four years of high school.
This requirement is probably the most misunderstood of all the requirements. A+ attendance requirements should not be confused with regular school attendance requirements as printed in the Fort Osage High School Student Handbook. The A+ program makes NO distinction between excused and unexcused absences.
If a student is in jeopardy of exceeding the maximum absences allowed, the State has provided specific guidelines for situations that may qualify to be waived.
The following situations are recognized by the Board of Education as guidelines:
Reason for Absence Recommendation Documentation
Hospitalization Attending Physician’s letter
Chronic Health Problem Physicians / school nurses letter
Catastrophic Illness Physician / school nurse/Principal’s Letter
Accident Injury Attending Physician’s Letter
Court Appearance Court Document/Principal’s letter
Funeral Letter from Principal
Personal/Family Calamity (fire, etc.) Letter from Principal
Please contact the A+ Office for the attendance waiver request paperwork to apply for an A+ Attendance appeal.
Attendance waivers will not be considered for any of the following: Truancy, avoiding classes/school, suspension, personal/family vacations, or transportation problems.
PLEASE NOTE: Students are not removed from the program because the attendance falls below the 95% requirement. It is your final attendance percentage at graduation that determines A+ certification.
