Completion of the Educational Setting Survey indicating face-to-face or virtual course attendance and then selecting synchronous or asynchronous for a virtual placement request is a decision that will stand for the first semester of the 2021-22 school year. The district will permit a change of placement one time only at the conclusion of the first semester for the entirety of the second semester.
“What if my student selected virtual as their educational setting and a course he/she chose during course registration is not offered virtually?”
For both synchronous and asynchronous virtual setting choices, if a course your student selected is not offered in the setting you selected, a school counselor or administrator will contact you to discuss the following options:
If transportation and family health status permits, the student will be scheduled to take that elective course face to face in the building.
If face-to-face attendance is not a family option and the course is available via Forsyth Virtual Academy and space permits, the student may take the course via the virtual asynchronous model.
If the student is unable to attend face to face and FVA does not offer the course but GAVS does, the student must meet GAVS requirements and complete the full registration process for the entire school year prior to the district deadline to access the course this way. Please be aware that the GAVS registration deadline for all Forsyth County students is July 6th, 2021. This is for both Fall and Spring semester requests for the 2021-2022 school year. Any requests made after that date will be denied.
If the student is unable to attend face to face and no virtual options exist, the student will be supplied with alternate course options.
It is important to note that most fine arts, career tech, physical education, and many core elective courses are not offered in a virtual environment because the student would receive a fraction of the intended course experience and miss out on the hands-on aspect of these courses.
Disclaimer: The master schedule has not been built at this time; therefore, this conversation is not an assurance that your schedule will work out as requested. At this time we are simply aligning your choice of educational setting and courses requested. We will be in contact with you should your student have a scheduling conflict.
All courses listed as face-to-face or virtual options must meet a minimum of total students requesting the option for the course to be created and available to students. Should your student request a course in any environmental setting that does not meet minimum student enrollment requirements, a counselor or administrator will contact the family and supply additional options for the student (taking the course in a different setting or selecting a different course altogether).
Disclaimer: Courses with fewer than 25 requests will not meet minimum student enrollment requirements and alternate selections will be required.
