6th and 7th Grade Student Password Refresh
On Tuesday, October 20th, all 6th and 7th grade students will be walking through the process of updating their school account passwords to help build strong digital safety habits and enhance account security. While students will be guiding their own password setup at school in their Homerooms, we encourage you to sit down with your child Tuesday evening to talk through their new login information, so you are both on the same page for accessing home learning resources. Thank you for partnering with us to keep our students safe and secure online!
The Preliminary Virtual Bee will take place on Tuesday, November 3rd at 9:15AM in the LAK Cafeteria.
Click here to access the Parent Newsletter.
If your child would like to compete, then you must use the link below to register BEFORE TUESDAY, OCTOBER 20TH at 9:00 PM. Students will need their CHARGED Chromebook and a pair of headphones. Students who arrive unprepared, will be turned away at the door.

In Language Arts, we are wrapping up unit 1 by writing a narrative essay that shows how the main character grows or changes after handling a challenge. Students will be working on this each day in class and will submit the final draft of their essay on October 26th. Then, we will move into analyzing and writing Informational text.
Continue talking with your child about homework assignments and encouraging him/her to complete the weekly Membean minutes (30 minutes for standard classes and 45 minutes for advanced classes). We appreciate all that you do to support us at home.
For the month of October, we are focusing on the mystery and horror genres. Students will learn about mystery and horror books available in our school library; we will also spotlight authors who write mysteries. Students have been hard-at-work preparing an in-class project called a book reflection to talk about a book they enjoyed from quarter one. All students will show their reflection in class with a showcase next week. We are excited to see their creativity and learn about more books to read! Now is a great time to talk to your student about their favorite book from quarter one! In order to reach their goal of 25 books this year, students should be reading their 7th book and 3rd genre.
6th Grade DLI:
DLI Culture will work on "Las Charlas" at the beginning of the 2nd quarter. They have been working on their slides and will begin presenting in class this month. I can't wait to see them in action. This assignment cunt as a formative for the audience and a Summative for the moderators.
6th Grade Standard Math
Students have successfully completed Unit 2A, which focused on greatest common factor (GCF), least common multiple (LCM), and fraction operations. Next, we will begin Unit 2B, where students will learn to apply decimal operations to real-life situations using a variety of problem-solving strategies. Please continue to reinforce these skills at home, as decimal operations can be challenging for many students but are essential for everyday tasks, especially those involving money and financial literacy.
Advanced Math
Students are currently working on Unit 3: Number Fluency. In this unit, they are extending their understanding of integers and applying rules for operations with positive and negative rational numbers, including fractions and decimals. Next, students will explore how to convert between fractions, decimals, and percents to deepen their understanding of how these forms are related.
Accelerated Math
Students in Accelerated Math have completed Unit 3: Number System Fluency and are now beginning Unit 4: Ratios, Rates, and Proportions. In this unit, they will explore relationships between quantities, analyze unit rates, and solve proportional reasoning problems using various strategies. These skills are key to future algebra success and everyday applications like comparing prices or calculating speed. Please encourage students to practice ratio and proportion of problems at home and to discuss how these skills appear in real-life contexts.
A lot is going on in our sixth-grade Earth science class! Students just learned about the phases of the moon and enjoy coming to class telling us what they saw in the sky the night before. You might have heard of some of these moon phases from them as well! We are in our third unit called Unit 3 – Earth, Moon, & Sun – Moon Phases, Eclipses, Tides, & Seasons. Over the next two weeks, students will learn about eclipses, seasons, and tides. They will have formative over seasons and tides on Monday, October 26th. Also, they will have Unit 3 vocabulary formative on Tuesday, October 27th. They should be well prepared for this as there was a Gimkit review game that was introduced at the beginning of the unit for vocabulary, and we have been telling our students to play this Gimkit and review vocabulary on a daily basis. Lastly, Unit 3 will culminate with a summative on Thursday, October 29th.
We’re kicking off our Europe Economy Unit! Students will explore the economies of the United Kingdom, Germany, and Russia while learning how countries grow their economies and measure economic success. We’ll also examine trade barriers and why countries use them to protect their businesses. These sixth-grade economy standards are detailed and introduce many new concepts, so we’ll take things step by step as students build their understanding of how economies work and connect to the world around them. At home, ask your student what GDP tells us about a country’s economy or where different countries might fall on the economic continuum!
Physical Education:
Just a reminder, quarter 2 has started! For any student that has PE for 2nd quarter, PE Uniform attire is grey shirt and black bottoms. If you have purchased a shirt, shorts, etc. on School Pay; your child will pick this up in class on one of the first days of the quarter. If your child needs a uniform, it can be purchased on School Pay. Please make sure your child has a grey shirt and black bottoms for the uniform as well as athletic tennis shoes for class every day.
**If you purchased a PE uniform on School Pay this year, but your child is not in PE this quarter, they will receive their PE uniform on the first days of the quarter when they have PE.
Please remind your child to lock up all their valuables in the locker room. Lockers and Locks are available for students to use.

DECA--Membership for DECA has closed. Both a parent permission slip and payment were due on September 5th. If your child submitted both of these by the deadline, then they will be invited to the DECA course on Canvas. How wonderful it is that we have over 140 students interested in being a part of this club! So, we truly are at capacity, and we are not accepting any more new members.
Meetings will be held during a student's flex time. There will be a meeting posted on Student Support Time for students to sign up for. They will not be automatically pulled for the meetings. I will explain this process to the students through their Canvas course. Our first meeting will be next week.
The DECA region competition is right around the corner on Wednesday, Dec. 9th at Browns Bridge Church. Judges are needed for this event! Please visit https://volunteer.forsythpartnerconnect.org/need/detail/?need_id=1320008 for more information!
Healthcare Science
Engineering
In Engineering, the students will be completing three different projects during these nine weeks. The first individual project is designing a website around a given theme. The second individual project is creating a specific themed world in Minecraft education. The third project is working with teams to build a mousetrap car (8th), a paper roller coaster (7th), and a robot (6th).
Parents & Guardians,
We have had an exciting start to the school year! Thanks to the support of our Lakeside community, the PTO has already approved more than $9,000 in teacher grants to help bring meaningful resources, activities, and learning opportunities directly into our classrooms. We are also proud to support our Band Department with new flooring, helping create an improved space for our talented student musicians to learn, practice, and perform.
The PTO is all about supporting education in ways that make a real impact on our students and staff. From enhancing classroom experiences to funding programs, events, and special opportunities, we work to make learning more engaging, connected, and fun for every student.
And the best part? None of it happens without parents like you.
If you have not joined the PTO yet, we would love to have you! Every family makes a difference, and your membership helps us continue supporting our teachers, students, and school community throughout the year.
