There are two ways to advertise and employ students:
Ongoing Student Job Board - Post job openings here any time! These positions will be advertised to all students in Forsyth County Schools.
These positions will be advertised to students who apply and are selected to be a part of our WBL program called Internship Forsyth (Work-Based Learning).
This program is a partnership with Forsyth County Schools, and the students hired will receive school credit for their work.
Internship Forsyth (Work-Based Learning) is designed for juniors and seniors who have demonstrated preparedness to apply their skills in a professional setting. This program offers ambitious high school students the chance to utilize their abilities and build confidence in the workplace, with the support of a professional supervisor who will guide them throughout their internship experience. The mentor, student, and supervising teacher work collaboratively to extablish a set of objectives for the student that build upon the foundational knowledge acquired in the classroom. These objectives will involve activities and projects designed to immerse the student in real-world work environments and introduce them to the latest developments and technologies in the field. Internships run the entire school year - August through May. The weekly hours for the internship are determined by mutural agreement between the mentor and student, typically occurring after school, during in-service days, or occasionally on weekends. While some internships may offer compensation, many are unpaid; and students receive course credit upon successful completion of the program.
Helpful Steps to Creating an Internship/WBL Experience
(To be completed in the months of January/February every year is recommended.)
Step 1: Identify Internship Opportunities: Organizations should evaluate their workforce requirements and determine areas where interns can provide valuable contributions.
Step 2: Define Learning Objectives: Clearly articulate the skills, knowledge, and experiences that interns will acquire during their tenure with the company.
Step 3: Develop Internship Descriptions: Construct comprehensive internship descriptions that clearly define the roles, responsibilities, and desired qualifications. These descriptions will be distributed to educational institutions and prospective interns. Consider formulating at least three learning objectives and outline how the intern may achieve these goals. Ensure that the learning objectives and time commitments are appropriate for young adult participants.
Also, consider that interns work a minimum of 5-15 hours per week depending on their school schedules. Most students intern in the afternoons, but some do intern in the mornings.
Step 4: Submit Your Internship Description: Upon receiving your internship description, we will reach out to assist you in matching with an appropriate intern through our educational partners. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have during this process.
