Polar (BC)

Quick Notes

• These problems are usually calculator questions, and typically you will have either polar or parametric as #2 on the BC exam.

• For these questions, you may be given a region bounded by one curve or two curves.

• The most challenging part of these problems is determining the bounds of integration when necessary.

• You may be asked to find the area bounded by polar curve(s) - remember 1/2r^2!

• You likely will not need to convert between polar and rectangular/parametric, but those relationships are useful in determining specific polar derivatives.

• Make sure you know the difference between the different derivatives and what information you can get from each. Slope is still dy/dx.

• Be prepared to analyze the polar function using those derivatives.
