Meet the Teacher -- Mrs Adams

Welcome to a fun adventure in piano!!  I am so excited that your child will be joining us this year through the AAFAA program at Blackburn Elementary.  Learning a new instrument is fun, enjoyable, and helps to bring a confidence for the child.   This confidence is very useful as it spreads to all other classes of their education.  I graduated in 2001 from Hardin - Simmons University with a bachelor of music degree.  During my 23 years of teaching I have had the privilege of teaching elementary music, middle and high school band, and private instruction on clarinet and piano.  Before coming to Blackburn Elementary when the AAFAA program began in 2020, I successfully owned and ran my own private music studio for 16 years. I have had the privilege of teaching piano to all ages and ability levels.  It is so rewarding to see children experience the joy that creating music can bring.  My goal for your child is to create a fun and exciting environment that encourages creativity and achievement on the piano.

• Proper warm ups for every piano level.

• Rhythm counting practice

• 3rd grade will begin their "spooky" piano songs for their October video performance

• Introduce new curriculum book for grades 2 -4

• K and 1st begin working in their Mozart Mouse books learning proper hand position, rhythm counting in music and opposites in music.

• Assessments continue and finish by the first week of Sept  - this is for grades 2-4 to determine what level the student needs to begin working in.  We will have 3 assessments per year to check on skills being passes off and learned for next level.

Piano solo audition for THE LITTLE MERMAID is open to piano students at a level 2, 3, or 4.  Music will be handed out soon but I have also posted it under helpful links if you would like to print it for home use.  

Auditions will be held in class - week of Sept 16th.  

Students must play measure 1 - 4 by themselves for the audition.
