SKILLS TO PASS OFF
2nd - 4th grade
The students will monitor their skills within each level and work to pass them off before moving into the next level. Our curriculum for 2nd - 4th grade is strongly based on self evaluation. Below is a list of some of the concepts/skills that the student will need to pass off before feeling comfortable to move to the next level.
P - prep pianist
1 - level 1 pianist

Proper sitting/playing position
Proper hand position
Finger number knowledge
Identify opposites in music
Black keys - groups of 2's, 3's, then together
Right hand/left hand identification
Rhythm understanding of quarter note/rest, half note/rest, whole note/rest
knowledge of repeat sign, double bar
locate and identify white keys
recite music alphabet
Middle C position - locate/master songs
Proper sitting/playing position
Proper hand position
Finger number knowledge
Right hand/left hand distinction
Knowledge of bar lines, repeat sign, double bar line
Tempo/metronome practice
Music Alphabet - up and down
Locate all white keys on piano
Rhythm understanding of beginner notes as well as dotted half note
Black keys - groups of 2's, 3's, then together

Rhythm understanding of all level 1 notes with addition of eighth note
C position - locate and play songs

Knowledge of treble clef staff note names
Grand staff
C scale pattern - using proper finger number pattern
Step vs Skip identification
Half steps (sharps/flats)
Melodic vs harmonic notes
Proper sitting/playing position

White key identification
Knowledge of musical symbols - time signature, staccato, slur, dynamics, tempo
Tempo/metronome practice
Rhythm understanding of all level 2 notes with addition of eighth rest
Knowledge of C and G playing positions and reading both on the grand staff
Grand staff note name identification
Half steps (sharp/flats) - enharmonic notes
Full octave scales - C and G
C and G chord identification (broken/block)
Damper pedal lifts within a full song
