Navigate to https://forio.com/simulate/mit/cleanstart
Select the "Enter registration code to access teaching video and notes, or set up a class" link.
Tip: If you do not see this link, then you have already entered your Registration Code.
Copy and paste your Registration Code, including the dash characters, into the "Registration code" entry field and select the Submit button. The login page will now display with additional links to access the teaching video and PowerPoint slides, and to set up a new class. We recommend reviewing the video link "View teaching video", which will help provide steps for uploading user information and setting up CleanStart.
Select "Set up a new class".
Enter a Class Code in the "Choose a Class Code" field. Your students will use this to join the simulation.
IMPORTANT: Please do not use your Registration Code as the Class Code. An unauthorized person can figure out that the Class Code is your Registration Code.
Enter a Password in the "Password" field.
Although this is optional, we recommend that you always enter a password to prevent students from accessing the Administrative settings.
Please take note of both Class Code & Password so that you can log out and log in later using the Login page link "Administer an existing class".
Select the "Submit" button, which will automatically log you into the settings as an Administrator.
To continue with uploading users and adjusting the settings, refer back to the "View teaching video" on the Login page. Fast-forward the video to the 12:13 minute mark to continue with the setup.
If you log out and later want to log in to the Class Code created in step 5 above:
Navigate to https://forio.com/simulate/mit/cleanstart
Select "Administer an existing class".
Enter the Class Code from step 5 above.
Enter the password from step 6 above.
Select the "Login" button.
Note: These are the continuation steps from the above "Steps to Create an Educator Account and Class Code"
Select the "Administer an existing class" link from the login page.
Enter your Class Code and password.
Go to the "Users -> Upload Users" page.
Select the "Excel template" link to download the "template.xls" file.
Open the file with a spreadsheet application such as Microsoft Excel.
Complete all fields.
Select and copy the entire spreadsheet except the header row.
Go to the "Users -> Upload Users" page from Step 3 above.
Paste info from Step 6 into the Upload User List field.
Select the "Load User Information" button.
To view the uploaded users, go to the "Users -> Manage Users" page.
Navigate to https://forio.com/simulate/mit/cleanstart
Select "Play as part of a class".
For Login ID, enter the assigned email address.
For Password, enter the assigned password.
Select the "Login" button.
We recommend that you avoid reusing the same email addresses when you create a new Class Code.
When uploading the same user information (email addresses) with a new or different password for a Class Code, the simulation will reuse the pre-existing passwords for the uploaded email addresses. The simulation will not update the user password with the new/different password during the upload process.
You don't need a valid email address when you upload user information. You can upload any unique email addresses that don't exist in the simulation.
The names do not need to be the actual student names. For example, instead of using Jane Doe jdoe@university-name.edu, you can use login IDs like jdoe@platformwars.com, jdoe101@videogame.edu, or Name2019@anyuniquename.org.
Please ensure that the username before the @ is at least three characters long, and the password is also at least three characters long.
Please always include a password when uploading player information into the "Upload User List" page. Otherwise, the simulation will auto-generate randomized passwords, and you will need to contact Forio to retrieve the auto-generated passwords.
For every new Class Code created, upload new and unique email addresses, and always include passwords. Avoid reusing the same email addresses from previous Class Codes. As noted above, the simulation will use the user's preexisting passwords for the uploaded email addresses. It will not update the user password with the new/different password during the upload process.
The CleanStart simulation is designed to be played in its entirety until the simulation ends. Students should not log out until they complete the simulation. It is designed so that once the students log out, they cannot resume where they left off when logging in again, nor are they able to retrieve their past results. This is also true if students keep the current simulation window open during mid-play progress and attempt to log in to another browser. This will not continue the progress in the other browser after login.
When students log out, the simulation will display an alert message: "Are you sure you want to log out? You will not be able to resume this game." In all cases, the students' progress and results can be reviewed by the facilitator.
Students can play the simulation until either:
Their company goes bankrupt
They finish the simulation without their company going bankrupt
When logged in, the facilitator can search and sort the student names and review their progress and results, which are timestamped.
