ABOUT THE EXPO

The Science and Innovation Showcase will be held on January 22, 2022 at Nagel Middle School. Students in grades K-12 will present both individual or group science, engineering and innovation projects. Innovation projects are interest-based "maker" projects possibly incorporating arts, sciences, and design thinking. These projects are not able to qualify for UC's Regional Science and Engineering Expo, but participants will receive feedback from those attending! Think of this as a "maker faire", minus the flammable demonstrations... These projects have fewer restrictions as to what the project must have.

WE NEED YOU!

Forest Hills School District needs qualified individuals to judge these exhibits. As a Science Expo judge, you will be asked to evaluate several projects, spending about 15 minutes interviewing each student whose project you are reviewing. You will be asked to judge various aspects of the science and engineering exhibits including visual appearance and creativity, the use of the scientific method or engineering process, the originality of the project, and the students’ understanding of what they have researched and discovered or built. It would also be helpful to the students if you would provide suggestions and offer encouragement.

As an Innovation Expo judge you will be asked to evaluate several projects and provide feedback to the student or group of students. There will not be a formal judging rubric, but it will be a thought based feedback system (ex: what did you like about the project? What could be improved upon?)

WHERE TO ATTEND

We ask that judges plan to be at Nagel Middle School, 1500 Nagel Road on Saturday, January 22nd from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. From 8:30 a.m. to 8:50 a.m., the Science Department Chairperson will give a brief presentation on judging criteria. Judging will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. and should conclude by noon. We will provide refreshments for judges throughout the morning. Please make sure to sign up below.
