Holden Reynolds delivered an outstanding effort in the 400 meters, placing 9th overall with a time of 50.51. He attacked the first 200 meters aggressively and put himself in position to compete. Over the final 125 meters, fatigue set in, but his willingness to leave everything on the track stood out. Coaches were especially impressed with his competitive courage and commitment to racing without hesitation.
In the field events, Corey Thoreson experienced a difficult day in the discus, scratching all three throws. Triston Brandsoy placed 12th in the shot put after earning 6th place earlier this season at the Drake Relays. While the outcome was not what we anticipated heading into the meet, championships can be unpredictable. Both seniors still completed outstanding careers and contributed significantly to the program’s success.
In the high jump, Colin Thompson and Aiden Frascht made their state meet debuts. Colin cleared 6'1", placing 12th overall — an impressive performance and a strong foundation heading into his junior year. Aiden did not clear the opening height, which is always tough at this level of competition, but the experience will fuel his growth for next season.
The 4x400 relay capped the meet with a season-best performance of 3:27.24, now ranking second all-time in school history. The relay team of Jayden Barkema, Holden Reynolds, Grant Gayther, and Max Dewhurst executed with composure and determination. With three of the four runners returning next year, the future is extremely promising for this group.
While the state meet did not unfold exactly as we had hoped, it was an invaluable experience and a fitting end to a remarkable season. The team finished the year with 25 top-five times recorded, five grade-level records broken, and one new school record established. It was, by every meaningful measure, a great season.
