Life as a teenager is complex! Adolescents experience shifting emotions as they balance the demands of school, friendships, family, extracurriculars, and personal growth. STRIDE is designed to better understand what teens’ emotional lives are really like in everyday settings. We are interested in how emotions change throughout the day and what adolescents do to manage those emotions – either on their own or with the help of others – as they navigate social, academic, family, and personal stressors.
Specifically, we ask teens to complete brief daily surveys to capture their emotional and social experiences close to the time they occur. This will help us learn more about how teens regulate emotions in natural contexts. Our goal is to use this knowledge to inform the development of personalized interventions that support adolescents’ effective emotion regulation across relationships and settings.
